Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I've currently got 285's on but they're due for replacement and with the job situation being what it is (absent) I'm looking for a cheaper alternative. Anyone know what size I can go down to on stock wheels?

POST 2Original post

My dealer put 265's on my rear and 225's up front.... I'll be upgrading to 285 or 295 soon in the rear and maybe 235 up front.... but to answer your question... You can run 265 Rear and 225 front.

POST 3Original post

it kind of depends on the wheel width you can probably use 265 or 275 on the rear unless you have some really wide wheels If you are looking for good lower cost tire, look at the Sumitomo HTR ZIII It's a pretty good performing tire and definitely one of the lower cost ones I have tracked and autocrossed with them and they are OK , but for normal street driving , very good

POST 4Original post

Look at Sumitomos, ~$550 for a set from TireRack.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got the Sumi's on now but alas up here we can't get them that cheaply! Looks like I'm going to Continentals. Thanks guys.

POST 6Original post

Cheap tires, and decent for highway commuting? (you are not tracking the car).... No one can beat the Nankangs All season Noble Sport NS-20.... For the front 235/40/18......92.00 each For the rear 275/35/18.......103.06 each A full set of tires for 390.12 (shipping included with prime account.....again, these are not tires to take to the track)...... For commuter/DD, there is no better value....IMHO (and yes, I have used them.........although right now I have Sumitomo's HTR ZII) If finances are tight, those tires are an option......

Stock size for the Mk 1 is 265/35 on the rear ... should be less expensive than the 275 or 285, and closer in circumference to the 285/30 that is standard for Mk 2 cars.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone ever hear of Maxtrek? REAL cheap and since I don't expect much from them they may do.....

POST 9Original post

Just checking the web it looks like your Maxtrek are made by SAFFIRO tire. The site is down at the moment but their phone number is [phone removed]. You might give them a call and drill them for more info

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 13098063

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
