I have had my 2000 C2 for almost 2 months now and am going to do a small repair that from what I have seen I will need to disconnect the battery.

And I also find it convenient to roll down the windows prior to disconnecting the battery so you have full access to the passenger compartment.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had my 2000 C2 for almost 2 months now and am going to do a small repair that from what I have seen I will need to disconnect the battery. Is there anything I should know before disconnecting/reconnecting? I have read some about the gauges not reading properly, windows having to be recalibrated, Radio not coming back on etc. so I am looking to avoid any potential frustrations.... Sorry for the probably no brainer questions I am new to this.
Lastly I am replacing my leather instrument cluster cover because the heat appears to have shrunken the original one and it looks terrible. Will I need to unplug the 3 plugs for the gauges or is there room to workaround disconnecting? Also if you guys have any further advice once I get it installed on what to protect it with so that it doesn't shrink again would be amazing. Thanks in advance!
You might want to get one of those compact battery packs and plug it into you cigarette lighter socket. Or get a CTEK charger or a Porsche Charge-o-Mat. I remember reading somewhere about a set-up that plugs into the OBD-II port to retain memories as another option so you will not lose your settings. IIRC you will need to reset your windows no matter what.
You'll need to disconnect the wiring harness from it....super easy, I've had mine out a few times. Make sure you have the radio code. Nothing else to worry about.
I disconnect my battery quite often, and the only thing I notice is the radio, so of course I keep the radio password handy. My windows seem to reset themselves after using once or twice. My engine doesn't seem to need to relearn anything.
Dont close the frunk! I usually put a roll of electrical tape (or similar) over the latch to make sure it doesn't get latched if it were to accidentally get closed.
The wiring connectors are a lever type. You have to lift the lever and rotate it and it pushes the connector out. Install is the reverse; just be sure that its fully seated and the lever action pulls it in and secures it. Make sure everything is lined up/seated before you push the lever in to reinstall.
Only tricky part is getting the hazard switch out. There are photos on the web (google) that will show how to get the switch out and get to that screw.
Its pretty easy once you know those few things.
Like RGrove said - Don't close the trunk! And I also find it convenient to roll down the windows prior to disconnecting the battery so you have full access to the passenger compartment.
No. I had my battery disconnected for extended periods and no issues. The radio code is all you need. The C4's have the gas tank issues.
And cover the interior dash with towels to prevent scratches in the other let her surfaces.
Thanks. Yea I found the walkthroughs on how to do it which are really helpful. I will make sure not to close the frunk. Main concerns were making sure all the instrument readings will be correct.
