I then put the old halogen back in, replaced A1 and A9 and all is well.

I wish cops would write more tickets for people running bad lighting on their cars though (here's looking you, brodozers who think driving with your LED light bars turned on is a good idea).

I bought an LED designed for halogen reflectors for my motorcycle's headlight, and it worked really well.
I need much brighter headlights on my 2000 996 without spending huge $$$.
Saw this video and wondering if any of you have added these LED bulbs to your 996?

They are not that great. The color of the light is wrong and the focal point of the light isn't correct for use in a halogen housing. The headlights will look brighter to oncoming cars (blinding) while actually throwing less usable light on the road.
The halogen housings in these cars do take well to HID conversions though. While not an ideal light pattern, it will not be blinding and have a fairly good light dispersion. I suggest you order bulbs in the 4-5K color range. Any higher is just blue light that doesn't help you see at night.
I would think an LED light would also work well since the housing for the low beam is a projector. I bought an LED designed for halogen reflectors for my motorcycle's headlight, and it worked really well. My lighting went from poor to fantastic. I'd love to do the same for my 996.
Headlights in our '02 996 seem to be a relaxing yellow around 2.7 K. Maybe a white 4-5 K would make obstacles more visible but may have another effect such as straining the eyes after awhile? And certainly when a vehicle is behind me with white lights they definitely bother my getting older eyes.

Technically, no. But if you do it correctly so you aren't blinding oncoming drivers the chances of getting in trouble for it is practically zero. Factory HID bulbs are usually around 3700-4000K. I find 4500-5000K to be the sweet spot between being the correct color to actually increase your useful light while also having the "fancy" look of the whiter bulbs.
Oh yeah, good point. I was thinking .1 and .2 both had projector halogens. What I said in my previous posts does not apply to .1 headlights, DO NOT PUT HID bulbs in .1 halogen headlights.

I installed a new LED bulb (Fahren Termitor) in the right housing. The insulation on all of the wires was so severely corroded from age that flakes were flying around and copper was exposed and touching - which immediately blew the A1 and A9 fuses (Right Side High and Low Beam). I had to repair (electrical tape) all the wiring insulation to prevent short circuits. I removed the Fahren because it took up way more room and placed added stress on the existing cables. I then put the old halogen back in, replaced A1 and A9 and all is well. But I would seriously think twice about replacing bulbs if your 22 year old 996 has the same problem of corroded wiring insulation, or buy an entire new wiring harness if they sell such a thing.
