It's suppose to adjust three ways, how does it actually adjust.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All. Brand new member and about to be 996 owner. I should be picking up my 2002 996 Carrera in a couple of weeks. This looks like the place to talk about Porsches and get answers from questions by some real knowledgeable people. So my first question concerns the rear spoiler on the 996 I'm buying. Is that an aftermarket spoiler or some sort of OEM option? Maybe the purists will frown on it, but I think it looks pretty good!
That looks like the cabriolet Aerokit rear wing to me. As to whether or not it is aftermarket, Im not sure. If you have the VIN you can get the build sheet listing all original options.
That's great, thanks guys. I do have the VIN. It shows the XAG option, "Carrera Fixed Spoiler". Does that mean that the moving rear spoiler is deleted, or is it still there and working?
Carrera II aerokit. The underside of the lid should have a part number
996 512 915 00 1
for OEM. XAG code fits coupe and cab. Check to see if the wire harness for 3rd brake light is spliced or one piece. Splice tends to point to aftermarket/added after purchase on the cheap.
Mine also came with a spoiler on it when I bought it, but it is not on the options list. Either way, I think it looks good and not out of place at all.
Technically there was no "Aerokit" option offered on the 2002-2004 (996.2) cars in the USA. They offered individual options for "Wide rockers" and the "Carrera Rear Spoiler" which is what your 2002 has on it.
On the 996.1 (1999-2001) they had an Aerokit single option that included a different front bumper, wider rockers, and a rear spoiler. The Aerokit front bumper from the 996.1 was never adapted for the 996.2.
The movable spoiler is not there. The decklid is the same and the wiring is still there for the accordion spoiler however, tied off near the fan. My 2003 996.2 (now sold) had this factory option.
If you wanted to, the closest thing to a Aerokit front bumper you could install on a 996.2 is the 996 GT3 front bumper cover, but this was never available as a factory option on non-GT3s.
Nick, is the Cup Aerokit II not the aero package for the 996.2? Or was it just never a factory option, available as an after sale upgrade only?

As far as I have ever seen it was never a factory option. That link appears to be the 996 GT3 body kit, which could be painted and installed on any narrow body C2 or C4.
My guess is that Porsche didn't want the C2/C4 looking like the GT3 to detract from GT3 sales at all, which came to the USA in late 2003.
From what I understand the Carrera Wing and skirts were optioned.
But the front bumper or complete kit could be dealer added.
996.2 Aero could have 2 wings, GT3 or Carrera, also some have carried over the taco
All the options for MK1 and MK2 are in the tequipment brochure.
You could order the Carrera wing or sideskirts separately but the GT3 front, side skirts and wing were only available as a package. The manual states you can't have a GT3 front without the GT3 wing - that's for the MK2.
Hey been searching around the forum but havent found the exact detail Im wondering so reviving this older thread.
working on a purchase for an 03 with the XAG option rear spoiler carrera. Although lots of folks here have said live with it and see if you like it. Its good advice but I am sure folks here will also understand the impulse of trying to understand what it would take to make it how I want...
Goal would be buy and swap the rear deck lid with the standard accordion auto spoiler. Ive read that it should be a simple wiring exercise - but still a little unclear. Since its a factory option the dash doesnt have the switch + indication light for the auto spoiler (which makes sense).
So, if I swapped for the accordion spoiler deck lid, would I also need to add the switch to the dash? Or would it still operate independently of that (ie just an auto operation)? Or is this even possible?
Yes buy an entire rear deck lid, undo the 4 bolts and swap on the new one. Unplug the wiring harness and plug in the new one. The old one will work via the switch in the drivers foorwell and auto deploy/retract as well.
IMO if the option sticker has that option, keep it with the car.
Yeah - it's a great point - car's 100% stock other then a new stereo head unit, so would definitely hold on so it matches the build sheet.
Oh - I thought the switch for manually moving the deckled spoiler was located on the dash - but it's in the footwell? I don't think I've seen a switch under there.
It will be there, it's a black switch with no picture on it. Bottom left of the fuse panel cover.
Spoiler switches in the dash are not original just a popular modification.
The rear Carrera spoiler was available as an option . On its own or part of the aerokit it was an opinion for the narrow body 996 back in 2003. Pretty rare and expensive to put on these days , iirc original new ones they command like 2.5k at least.
I wish I had it installed all these years ago now , I think it looks stunning on the narrow 996 !!!!
I think it looks awesome as well. I just replied to a guy who was thinking about replacing his with just the regular accordion auto spoiler and was just wondering if he wanted to sell his. I know they are VERY expensive. I have found them for $1800USD.
Does anyone have any information or a video on how the AeroKit Cup works? It's suppose to adjust three ways, how does it actually adjust. Mine has fallen apart, and I am trying to understand how to put it back together, and make it functional again.
Wing fell off.
I need to know what fits or goes in this bracket.
I have since cleaned up this mess and have the bolts out, and the little bracket that was in there.
This has all been cleaned up, but what does it do?, and where does it go? and how does it fit back on?
Same with this side, all cleaned up, but need to know how to put back together.
Here's how it's put together, rear view:
See those 2 screws on each side. They hold the center portion in place.
Through a L-bracket.
Once the screws are out from both sides, tilt the center portion upwards, nearly vertical.
It will slide off 2 pins towards the front.
Here is the receiving bracket that those pins slot into.
This is the L-bracket. It can be moved up and down to adjust the angle of the center portion.
To adjust the angle, unscrew the forward screw. The rear is a pin.
For any position other than default (level) - you'll only use the pin. Place it into the middle or highest rear hole. The screw won't be used. Reinstall the center portion. Screw the bottom screws to the L-bracket.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the great pics! This is so helpful. I know get how it works. Question, does the smaller stud that the bracket goes onto, does it have a ratchet, or screw, or does it just sit there?
