Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Then popped out the door from the new unit assemblies and installed back on my old 996 original visors, so cracked and damaged visors are now good as new.

Me too (I removed and replaced those faulty cheap old flaps) but I went the cheap route and bought some unlit version of the visors.

Suggestion
I've contemplated trying out a set of 997 visors, or having an upholstery shop replace the cheap feeling vinyl with black leather that matched the dash/pillars.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The sun visors on the 996..arent very good. There, Ive said it. Theyre small, odd shaped, the upholstery is low quality, the mirror covers are floppy and the airbag sticker is sticky.
what are you guys doing about it?
Dont open the doors on the mirrors.......ever. they will break. I have a set of black visors with no mirror doors if anyone wants a set cheap to practucr on.
This is funny because when I first got my car and opened the mirror cover without thinking twice they did not fail and had nice positive feedback. Never touching them again... might have a unicorn here
Cayman visors are different, but the mirror inserts are the same. I have screamed loud enough to scare a passenger when I see them reaching for the visor knowing they are going for the mirror.
Both of my mirror covers failed not when someone was even using them but instead driving down the road and hitting a bump.
Im sure past use was the main contributing factor but my wife laughed at my car for a month about how cheap my Porsche must be because it fell right in her lap.
I replaced my passenger mirror.
My daughter has used it twice successfully the last year or so.
I removed my airbag sticker using alcohol a few years ago.
I've tried cleaning and lubricating my sunvisor and it's still sticky.
Nothing seems to work on it.
I've contemplated trying out a set of 997 visors, or having an upholstery shop replace the cheap feeling vinyl with black leather that matched the dash/pillars. I would have them "delete" the mirrors all together.
The Targa sunvisors suck and are really expensive. I need a driver's side as the mirror is mysteriously cracked on mine. Of course the driver's is somehow even more expensive than the passenger's.
Indeed these visors are a joke, very flimsy and super weak... I made a mistake to try it out on the driver-side once and, barely touched it and the hinges just disintegrated and the lid fell on my lap, ugh!!! New ones are expensive but luckily I found a used one on eBay; transplant the working lid w/ the 2 wires for the light. Everything works fine now but I am not touching it again tho, lol...
Hey Idaho,
Do you only need the mirror part? I think I still have it since I only used the lid part. Let me double-check after work and get back to you. If I still have it, then it's yours if you still want it? Cheers,
There is a thread where a RennLister published a 3D printing file for new mirror lids and there is also a guy who sells the 3D printed ones (presumably ready to install for $44).
Not unreasonable at $44 to return to stock but stock kinda sucks. Im with you and want to take them to an upholsterer for leather, Dinamica or Alcantara covering. Not sure of cost
Hadnt thought about 997s fitting do they?
My visor mirrors are great!
Remove airbag sticker:
Remove visor from car
Soak a small rag in 91% isopropyl alcohol. Lay wet rag on the sticker
Let soak for 30 minutes or more. Reapply alcohol to keep it damp.
Scrape off sticker with a plastic scraper and some scotch-brite plastic scrubber.
Fix visor hinge:

Then popped out the door from the new unit assemblies and installed back on my old 996 original visors, so cracked and damaged visors are now good as new. No more problem. No more flaps that popped out when using the mirrors and no more sticky sticker issues either.
Follow the link below to post #5875 and you will see my repair of the sun visor lid. I just found out Rennlist member Anders Flodin was the one who created the 3D file in Thingiverse.

My
No Substitute
vanity mirror cover just dropped like an apple from a tree as I was putting my windshield shade up. I suppose it's time for some velcro dots because I'm not in a hurry to pay $65 for a new $2 piece of plastic.
I told my wife about the sun visor issue (they are shockingly perfect on my 04/98 car) and she was surprisingly chill about it. Says shell just bring along a compact, whatever that means.
