i took mine to the shop that most of the ferrari & Pantera racers go to for prepping their cars and had the owner do my allignment after i installed the ROW M030.

Got alignment today at a local shop used by many here in Atl.

I used to run 1.5 to 2.0 deg of neg camber on my old autox gti, and even that didn't have much impact on tire wear as long as I drove it hard.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My shop went "max negative" with my alignment, and I think it worked out in the mid -.2x' range.
I know i've seen it posted (I think), but for the life of me cannot find the thread anywhere.. Does anyone have the rowmo30 alignment settings? I spoke with the dealer and they said they dont have those specs and that would most likely use the US version which is slightly taller then the ROW.
Thanks in advance.
Peter
i don't have the specs anymore but i'd take your car to a shop that preps cars for the tracks & does allignments. i took mine to the shop that most of the ferrari & Pantera racers go to for prepping their cars and had the owner do my allignment after i installed the ROW M030.
i gave him the factory specs for this suspension and he said they were extremely "pussyfooted" i explained that i did not need to have maximum performance as my car was a daily driver and did not want to chew through tires every 3-5K miles. He guaranteed that i would be happy with the settings he did and I am - thrilled. he basically indicated that the factory specs were worthless as they only differ from the regular suspension in one area (can't remember which measurement).
BTW, they cost about half as much as the dealer
Peter, basically, Rob's data shows maximum negative camber settings. They went past it just a fuzz in the front (-22'vs-15') and just under on the rear (-1degree23' vs -1degree25').
For max handling, you want most negative camber allowed. I intend to have my car aligned similar to Rob's.
Think of your wheel on a vertical axis where the top 1/2 of the wheel sits closer in to the suspension than the bottom. Left Wheel looks like this / and right wheel looks like this \
hey rob thanks for the post.. would I be able to use your setup even though my car is an 03 MY?
I'm assuming that the max negative camber allowed would be great for handling but bad for the life of the tires? There's got to be a trade off for the added performance.

I'm
almost
positive that will work on your car, since I did mine in '03 and the print out specifies 996 1999- and not 1999-2002. You may want to check over at renntech.org just to be sure. Yes, negative camber will affect tire wear, but mine is not an overly aggressive set-up (vs. say a hardcore auto-X alignment). I've got over 12k miles (they're almost toast) on my S03s with this set-up, which is more then I got out of the P-Zeros with the stock suspension/alignment. You will be VERY happy, the car feels like a go-cart in comparison with stock.
Peter,
Here is a good comparison of the standard US suspension, the USA M030 and the ROW M030 with spring height comparisons, ride height comparisons, and an engineering study of each of the three different setups. It does not give you camber figures, but it will help explain the differences between your old setup and your new one. Good luck.

I thought i'd give them a try.. They have one expert that does nothing but alignments all day.. Plus a very nice machine.
I figure, they work on these babies all day so it wouldn't be anything new.. I was thinking about intersport but the shop was dark and not as clean.. call me weird but I felt safer dropping it off with HBL.. Oh, and I got a loaner!!!
I can always compare my alignment printout with Rob's right?
-.19' camber is pretty minor; minor enough that it shoud have zero impact on tire wear. You can specify a touch more toe out to even out the wear if you like.
I used to run 1.5 to 2.0 deg of neg camber on my old autox gti, and even that didn't have much impact on tire wear as long as I drove it hard.
the tradeoff, since your asking, is a slight decrease in braking traction and in straight line stability (in a perfect system). That said, .19' is giong to have near zero impact. Note that the factory specs -.30' for the x74.
The front suspension has limited camber abilities, at stock height you can barely go negative at all, and your ability to go negative increases as you lower the car. My shop went "max negative" with my alignment, and I think it worked out in the mid -.2x' range.
Dell, they charged 150.. Not bad IMO..
Thanks Mark.. Big brother is watching..
Now you need to teach me how to drive the car the way it was meant to be driven..
Thanks stiles for your inputs.. So toe out will compensate for neg camber huh? Won't that result in slower turn ins?
Surprisingly not. As you go toe OUT, you actually (to a point) get quicker turn-in but straight line stability suffers. I believe my car is at zero toe, just slightly more aggressive than factory.
My comment about compensating for the camber was more about tire wear than handling characteristics.
those are some pretty crazy settings !
in all seriousness, i've noticed recently that my car sits lower. it took about 2 months and 1000 miles! I was expecting it to only take about 10-15 miles
Smartass.
Had a little uploading problem there.....
My car dropped 5/16" all the way around from the height of the 39,000 mi OEM springs.
Jeff at Grand Tourismo said it should settle some.....
I'm fairly psyched to go driving. It is finally gonna quit raining, so Sat morn should be perfect weather in the mtns.
The car should feel quite a bit tighter with the row 030 and the B&M ssk......
The alignment was done at Gran Tourismo East. [phone removed]. I don't know if they do install. Alignment price: $125.
Performance Imports quoted $1k for install and alignment.
IIRC, someone posted that J3 Racing would install and align for ~$720.
