Hi, About to put on the LN Spin on filter adapter. Here's a minor thing that bothers me. The body of the adapter has two large grooves for o rings. Out of all the research. Everyone has mentioned o ring to be installed, but not stating how many of the large ones. I have couple o rings around. Just don't want to put on the unnecessary one. What makes you so sure that's an oring gland? I've never seen the spin on adapter in person, but I'm pretty sure that's a thread relief and not an o-ring gland. A thread relief is there to ensure the adapter bottoms out on the flange face to fully seat the oring as you're tightening. Without a thread relief, you run the risk of bottoming out on the threads before the oring or flange is fully seated.

I share your confusion on this. It doesn't help that LN's installation instructions say " When installing, be sure to lubricate both o-rings with clean engine oil." Note the plural!
