Since I have a tiptronic, there is no clutch service for me to take advantage of to visually check the bearing, so I checked the service history with Porsche, and they discovered that the engine was replaced at 87 000 km in Japan some years ago.

I have a brand new in box IMS Solution kit made by LN Engineering. It is meant to replace the dual row bearing and is a permanent solution. It is listed here on Rennlist in the market place: https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1266519 It is not used, but new, and the parts are still in the bags. Comes with the screw on oil filter adaption kit, instructions, sticker and everything needed. Never installed. Why am I selling this rather than installing it in my car? Well ... I wanted to put this kit in my 1999 Porsche 911 C4 tiptronic. But I had to be sure that I had the dual row IMS. Since I have a tiptronic, there is no clutch service for me to take advantage of to visually check the bearing, so I checked the service history with Porsche, and they discovered that the engine was replaced at 87 000 km in Japan some years ago. Not much more than that could be found since it was all in Japanese. I got the engine serial number from the bottom of the engine and checked that. The number correlated to an engine for a 99 C2, and it did not have the "AT" in the serial number indicating that it was a Porsche replacement engine with a different bearing. Conclusion was that it was a used engine that was put in the car. I was confident that I needed the dual row replacement IMS Solution after all. So imagine my surprise when they call me up and tell me they can't put in the bearing because I have later large non-servicable bearing! So now I have an expensive paper weight. I did call LN Engineering, and they will take it back, but with a 25% restocking fee. Now if I have no choice, I'll do that, but at 25% loss, that is several hundred dollars. your description is not accurate. Its not a dual row bearing, its a plain bearing with external oil feed.
