Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check 2 see if a tsb has been issued' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check 2 see if a tsb has been issued' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

also, try resetting ur computer (unplug the battery for a while..then reconnect.) the computer resets itself and relearns driving techniques and whatnot.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have 911 01 turbo with 16000 miles. There is a chattering noise comming from the exhuast/engine area. It seems to go away at higher rpms, but is always there at idle? I just bought the car and am new to porsches. Please help
Jags
I also have engine vibrations inside the car. Is that normal? I have a benz and in that car you cant even tell if the engine is running. Am I just being paranoid
hmm..at 16000 miles you shouldn't have much problem.
if its not throwing a misfire engine code at you..try putting a new battery in... i had a rough idle with vibration and when i put in a new battery it went away. (this was an N/A car, not a turbo tho)
also maybe some new spark plugs?
also, try resetting ur computer (unplug the battery for a while..then reconnect.) the computer resets itself and relearns driving techniques and whatnot. this made a big difference for me.

MAybe you didn't know at first but the flywheel may cause the chatter. Depress clutch at idle and see if noise goes away-if so it's the flywheel. I don't think you'll need to worry about it as my GT3 does the same thing since day 1 I got it. But peace of mind maybe you'll need to have dealer check it. Mike
Sometimes a bad throwout bearing on a clutch can cause a chatter type sound, I'm not sure if this is a problem on the 996 type cars. If it's a tapping sound it could be lifters sounding off, that's not unusual. There are lots of possibilities, hopefully it's not the turbos or something serious.
I dont think its the clutch or the flywheel because when the clutch is engaged it does not go away. Its going into the dealer tommorrow to have the bov's replaced. Could that have anything to do with it?
Diagnosis of noise is extremely hard to help with over the net. That said have your ruled out the obvious things such as loose exhaust tips, or the exhaust tapping against a heat shield, or a loose heat shied or something loose on the wing or deck lid? Can the noise be heard inside the cabin with the windows up or is it something you only hear with the windows down or outside of the car? Other ideasthe baffles inside the exhaust have been known to come loose which will exhibit a sound very similar to the one you discribed, as gravel or rocks can get trapped in between some heat sheilding which can cause this type of noise. The potential causes are endless and not necessarily an engine function problem.
As for the vibration.I dont own a Turbo (unfortunately) but every Porsche I have owned and everyone I have driven idles much more roughly than my wifes BMW and any other Mercedes I have driven. Does this mean your vibration is normal?...no you should still have it checked out by someone experienced with the Turbo. But as side note modern Porsche have done a lot to calm the mechanical sounding sympathy and isolate the vibrations coming from the back (some of which is truly missed IMO), however, there is not a 911 made that is quite and as isolated from engine vibration as most MB (BMW, Lexus, etc.) . I have never been in a Porsche where you had to look at the dash to determine whether the engine was on, while in many modern luxury cars this is the case.
