Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

However I am unsure of the car milage when the IMS was replaced.
Leading evidence: 'Replace however i am unsure of the car milage' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust inch or two up/down while you are' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I put the front on 7" ramps then put the rear jack points on the stands and used the HF scissor jack.

I also used an RV stacker jack to hold the rear of the engine up.

Suggestion
Takes up a lot less space than having a floor jack under there and easy to adjust an inch or two up/down while you are under the car.

Suggestion
In light of complexity of the work you plan (vs wheel change), you may want to consider higher quality jack stands available form our host here.

The ESCO stands with a lift height of 21.5 seems like a good choice but I am unsure if this is enough to pull out the transmission from underneath while using the HF trans lift.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I performed a search but could not find any good results. I have a '04 C4S 6MT (w/ 103K miles) that needs the transmission replaced. I plan on purchasing a rebuilt tranny from gbox and putting it on myself. I feel quite confident in the task and would love to have the experience. I plan on using a
Harbor Freight low profile transmission jack
. The harbor freight transmission jack at its minimum height is 7-1/4" and at its max lift heigh is 23-1/4".
1) I do not have a lift or access to a lift so my first question is will I have sufficient clearance to move the old transmission away from underneath while the car is on jack stands extended at their maximum height?
2) Second, do you guys have any recommendation on specific jack stands (that have high lift height) I should purchase? (I will use a hydraulic trolley floor jack to support the engine).
3) Third, what hydraulic floor jacks (that have high lift height) I should purchase?
My car have had the IMS bearing replaced w/ the LN Retrofit years ago by the first owner (I am the third) but I know that a replacement is typically necessary after so many miles. However I am unsure of the car milage when the IMS was replaced. I am considering the LN Pro (versus Solution) due to cost difference.
Thank you for your time and wisdom.
Just FYI, there has been a recall on Harbor Freight-supplied jack stands (and maybe other lift products). There is a Sticky somewhere in these fora. In light of complexity of the work you plan (vs wheel change), you may want to consider higher quality jack stands available form our host here.
Correct. Do not buy Jackstands from HF. I bought my main jack from NOS, and back up jacks from HF. I did have to buy the ATV jack from HB because the Craftsman one is gone for good.
I am certainly planning to avoid the HF jack stands. Thank you for the heads up!
I dont see a recall for the HF transmission lift so it looks safe to utilize. The ESCO stands with a lift height of 21.5 seems like a good choice but I am unsure if this is enough to pull out the transmission from underneath while using the HF trans lift. Thoughts?
The ESCO stands worked for me. I put the front on 7" ramps then put the rear jack points on the stands and used the HF scissor jack. I had to slide the trans off the scissor jack to get it out from under the car. That ratchet strap on the scissor jack got in the way, so I took it off. I also used an RV stacker jack to hold the rear of the engine up. Takes up a lot less space than having a floor jack under there and easy to adjust an inch or two up/down while you are under the car. Doing it again I would raise the front up a couple more inches by adding wood under the ramp. Overall not a hard diy job and the hardest part was the top bolt, good luck.
DCS,
I imagine using ESCO jacks on the front would give me greater clearance than the ramp. Is the HF scissor jack you are referring to the low profile trans jack I mentioned above (considering you mentioned a strap on it)?
