Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wondering if anyone has some ideas for a problem that recently started. When by 2003 996 convertible top is up there is separation of the top to the middle frame piece. It started with being just barely outside the frame piece to now what is shown in the picture. With the top in various positions I could not find an obvious difference comparing side to side. The top is worn and aged but intact and was without leaks. I am certainly planning a replacement soon but was wondering if anyone had any ideas to why all of the sudden it is not seating properly now and if there was an easy fix. Much thanks.

POST 2Original post

There is a cable or strap that goes across on the inside between the top and the headliner. It's loose or broken. Easy fix.

^^^ this, for mine, it was the rivet that holds the cable on the front plate. All it needed was a new rivet. Some disassembly is required but as Wyovino mentions, it's not difficult. There are some vids on YouTube. Good luck!!!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to both of you. I did find the video help I needed (unsure how I did not find it the first time) but your responses definitely encouraged me to take a look and try. It was the broken rivet that golock911 suggested. Luckily it was not a broken cable. $1 in a bolt, washer and a lock nut did the job. Job is easy for anyone else out there. It is a bit disconcerting pulling the roof canvas back from the front corner but all went well and it sits nice again (still will need replacement sometime though). Thanks!

POST 5Original post

Totally agree about pulling the canvas back. But if you move carefully, it all works OK. Congratulations.
