Funny thing is that I've used Allstate on all my cars for several years now, and nobody else has been able to beat their rates.
Leading evidence: 'Use allstate' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'standard' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check 6 months ago' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

For ex, a Chubb client of mine has a $500 comp deductible, but they'll replace any windshield/window for no deductible, it only kicks in for other comp losses (hitting an animal, act of God, etc)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I should have done more checking 6 months ago when I got the car...
But either way I just can't understand that, for the same coverage pretty much, the spread is $220 a month to about $85 a month. Same car, same me, pretty much the same everything.
Geico was the cheapest, and I think Allstate was the most expensive. I've been paying around $170 which seems to be the middle through State Farm, and Progressive and Esurance is right around there as well although I think they are more at $140 and $150ish respectively.
I should have known better as it's the same thing for motorcycle coverage on my old bikes that I never really use.
So just to vent a little and if nothing else this thread is a public service to remind everyone that once it a while it doesn't hurt to check.
AAA is the way to go
Less expensive than any other company I found
Great service
No BS when filing a claim
If you have a soon to be new driver, they don't charge ANYTHING from when they get their learners permit until they are 16 1/2 unless they get a moving violation or are more than 50% fault in an accident
Of course, you and everyone on the policy must be a good driver. I think its max 1 point in last 3 years to get the policy
For you guys that got Allstate quotes - you're lucky they would even give you one. Here in NJ, they won't even quote my C4S. I asked if it was specific to that model, and was told they won't issue a new policy on any Porsche in NJ.
Funny thing is that I've used Allstate on all my cars for several years now, and nobody else has been able to beat their rates. Used to have USAA, but they kept creeping up until they were no longer competitive.
I still have Allstate on my wife's SUV, but ended up going with Progressive for the Porsche.
I had something like that happen when I called Geico about my XK8. I was 25 at the time and had about as many points on my license. When my record came up on the agents computer she couldn't contain the laughter
I must have done something wrong on Liberty Mutual. Came out at $600 some a month... Either way, if done correct, I'm thinking they would have been more expensive.
Also this thread is in no way to say one company is better or worse than another. It really depends, which is why it's best to shop around.
Mine, USAA, does but there is an upcharge for OEM glass from Porsche. I think I paid 150 bucks to have mine replaced. No deduct and I get one per year.
Thanks Gator. Can you have a Porsche dealer install it, and does it matter (in your opinion)? I think they might have to remove the windshield wipers linkage and possibly heater core (?)
The timing of this is funny. I was just reviewing my coverage with Geico yesterday and thought it seemed kind of high. Went out and did a quote for exact same coverage levels with Farmers, and they came in at almost twice as much. Decided I would leave well enough alone and stay with Geico for now.
Have had good experience with Geico, and wasn't really itching to leave. Just thought maybe I could do a little better. Guess not. (Based on my sample of exactly 1 attempt to comparison shop)
I still had to go through SafeLite as that is their contractor. They ordered the glass from Porsche and installed it at my office. I did verify that the glass had the little triangle stamped on the lower left corner. I forget the name of the glass. I couldn't watch the guy do the work as I had some meetings but it came out flawless. USAA will only replace it if the chip is larger than a quarter or the crack is longer than a dollar bill. Otherwise they will spec a resin repair. That's probably a standard for most companies.
Check out AAA. Also their Premier membership includes a 200 mile free tow, so if something bad happens at the track, you can get it towed home for free as the "local" tracks are less than 200 miles away
Kind of a wake up call for my Porsche, I never consider to have one car with a different company, I have all 4 cars with All State, in a couple of occasions I research and compare with State Farm and Metlife auto through my wife's work, they couldn't come close.
GEICO was def. Inexpensive. The only one that could beat Geico was Hagerty...but they were a little more restrictive with # of previous claims of any kind.
I'm an independent agent in Michigan, most states are the same when looking at rating criteria from company to company, I think (don't quote me on this) only 2 or 3 states do not use a credit based rating model (Hawaii and maybe Mass?). Things that go into the rate.
-Credit history (not your FICO, but a "insurance based model" that is based on it, doesn't pull a hard hit)
-Loss history (obviously)
-Driving record(s)
-Area you live in/garage the car in
-Commute
-Usage
-Health insurance coordination or not (might be a mini-tort state or no fault only law, not 100%)
-Age
-Discounts, multi policy, prior insurance, prior liability limits, alumni, occupation, education level, etc
Due to all of these and a number of smaller things, myself and my neighbor can be literally the same age, same car, same driving record, but could have drastically different quotes from the same company, simply due to credit, or a claim.
I was a "captive agent" for years, meaning I had 1 carrier to pick and if it wasn't a good price, oh well, I'd lose the business. Now as an independent I can pick and chose who I represent and the best package (coverage limits are more important than price, but value (high coverage, great service at competitive costs. IE not the cheapest, but if you call on a Sat to change a car, they're there for you) can be had almost anywhere)
This is not an Ad, but I am appointed to sell Leland West (also have Hagerty, Grundy, American Collectors and Safeco for exotic, sports, classics, etc -all in Michigan).
Leland West specifically has an additional 5% discount for PCA members and it can be a DD/commuter Porsche. If your interested in a quote, I believe I can quote in most, if not all states through them as it is a broker that is licensed in the said states. If not I can at least help get a quote for ya.
As far as glass coverage, some carriers have a separate deductible option or glass deductible waiver with their comprehensive coverage. For ex, a Chubb client of mine has a $500 comp deductible, but they'll replace any windshield/window for no deductible, it only kicks in for other comp losses (hitting an animal, act of God, etc)
USAA is a great carrier for you vets and direct vet family, btw.
I recently switched from Liberty Mutual to Allstate after my neighbor got a great quote. After combining my home owner's policy and applying all of the discounts mentioned by Williamr91, my car insurance for 3 cars came down from $4800/year to $2200/year with better coverage. I also saved a lot on the home owners policy.
It pays to shop around.
I had two windshield resin repairs done several years ago in the midst of shopping insurance. I went to a carrier that had quoted a great rate a few weeks prior to sign up and found out that "a claim is a claim". It was now $200 higher every six months. Resin repair or major accident damage counts the same when shopping carriers. A claim is a claim.
I pay for my own resin repair now.
I've had good luck with the DIY route. Although it may not come out 100% brand new looking like some of the pro outfits, it definitely stops the spreading and masks 90-95% of it. I've been doing this for over 8 years now and it's worked good for me. YMMV.
Your rates should not go up because you had a claim, at least for a comprehensive or not at fault claim
An at fault accident, well that is a different issue and could raise your rates.
I have had a couple of claims with AAA in the last few years
Water damage in my home from a bad ice maker hose on the refrigerator
Totaled car due to avoiding an animal and hit a guard rail
cut convertible top (not on my Boxster)
None of them affected my rates at all
You pay them for years for the time when you suffer a loss. Quid Pro Quo
