Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This place lists 996 Porsche as being compatible. I have a 996 Turbo that throws out ABS warning light when I hit speeds above 80 or 85 mph. It would be nice to hit my iphone and kill the light w/o going to my indy. Has anyone tried these?
You can get a similiar thing that has proven to work on 996's for $10 through Amazon for general OBD2 codes.
However, ABS is on a separate system so you may need the Durametric or a knockoff.
That is just a OBD2 bluetooth adaptor and an app
As Alpine said, yo can find them on Amazon or ebay for around $10-$20 .
Note that id you have an iPhone, the bluetooth ones do not work well, get a wifi version or spend $$$ for a special bluetooth one like you posted
You can find lots of OBD2 apps in teh app store
All ANY of the generic OBD2 readers can do is read and clear basic codes. they do not get into the special Porsche codes nore will they clear things like airbag codes or lights
You need a Durametric.
do a search and you will get lots of info
That's a $100 solution to a $20 problem. A cheap BT dongle plus the Torque app will net you the same thing for under 20 bucks...
You can also buy used OBD-II scanners from Amazon for ten bucks that will let you clear diagnostic codes. The wireless option on your phone is slick, but the simplicity of just plugging the OBD-II reader into the port, and not having to dick around with the phone, making sure it's charged, ensuring Bluetooth is enabled on your phone can be refreshing...
As stated, only Durametric(or knockoff) will read more manufacturer specific codes and sub systems like Airbag module, ABS Module, Lighting module, etc.
Some generic codes like ABS wheel sensor codes for example can be read from some generic OBD readers on some cars but can't be cleared though.
I got one at AutoZone for ~$60. Plugs into the port and you can check and clear the CEL codes. I've had one "nuisance" code that comes on when weather changes.
Regardless of flavor, having an OBD-II scanner is a great resource. In addition to troubleshooting why the check engine light is on, you can also view pending codes that have not yet caused the light to turn on. Some MAF issues, for example, may not immediately trigger the dash light.
I had a Harbor Freight OBDII reader that refused to work on my daughters Buick LaCrosse. I now use a $5(shipped) BT Dongle from eBay with the Torque app on my Android Nexus tablet for OBDII stuff. It works great. As they mentioned, it doesn't work with the iPhone.
Just one more tool for the box!
I use a Kiwi plug-in and the DashCommand iPhone app. Works great and is customizable. I did the iPad Mini install so I have the app available anytime the car is on.
Langg
Langg, can you help a tech simpleton with this? I can't find anything on this Kiwi plug in. Where do you get it, how do you put it in, and make it work? I did find the app though!
I would hate to have to buy an Android tablet so I could use Torque, I need something that will work on my Surface or iPad. I guess eventually I will have to shell out the Durametric money.
Ive been able to read and clear all generic codes with my $15 Autel scanner on my 996. Yes I have 3 scanners: durametric knock off to clear airbag and manufacturer specific codes, Android Torque app for enhanced logging or real time scanning/measuring, Autel to loan to friends or to pull generic codes on. It helps that these cars are 15 years old that will take the older protocols.
