I regularly add octane booster, since our sh*t gas in CA doesn't meet the recommended spec.

However, the Turbo engine has always been a strong running energetic engine and it just might naturally -- so to speak -- run cleaner and thus accumulate fewer deposits which could interfere with the engine's combustion.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I regularly add octane booster, since our sh*t gas in CA doesn't meet the recommended spec. Or a couple of gallons of race fuel if I'm driving past the one station that carries it...
Over the years if I felt I got a tank of bad gas I would add a can of additive. And on road trips I carry one in the trunk for just such an occasion. But I use high quality high octane all the time and I haven't had a problem in the last year or so.
I've always had good luck with Techron....just make sure it's the fuel system cleaner, not the injector cleaner. I usually use it right before an oil change.
BTW, Porsche makes their own cleaner called Keropur and it's made by BASF. Most likely similar to Techron.

Pretty much a waste of money.
A proper premium grade of fuel from a top tier name brand supplier already has some detergent and other beneficial additives in it.
But there are differences.
I've had a bit of a revelation about gasoline within the last few months.
Briefly, I was using Shell V-Power. The Shell station is convenient and its price was the same or a bit less than name brand competing stations in its general vicinity.
Every so often a longish drive -- 40 or more miles -- at highway speeds would at the end have the engine feeling a bit more energetic, exhibiting crisper throttle response.
I was happy.
Then the Shell station for reasons unknown to me raised it prices. Quite a bit. Unwilling to pay 20 cents more per gallon I switched to Chevron gasoline because the Chevron station kept its prices down along with other stations near the Shell station.
After going through a couple of tankfuls of Chevron gasoline I noticed the Boxster engine had regained some low end grunt, some vigor, and seem to run better at higher RPMs too.
The change was rather remarkable, on par with what I used to experience when I would head east and drive for hundreds of miles.
But I didn't have to drive hundreds of miles. Not even 40 or more miles. I just drove the Boxster as I have been driving it for months, back and forth to work (30 mile commute each way) and around town for errands.
Based on my experience with my Boxster I'm convinced the Techron used in Chevron gasoline has a real benefit in keeping the engine free of deposits.
If one can arrange to use Chevron gasoline regularly -- best -- or a couple of tankfuls every so often -- I see no reason to resort to using any fuel system cleaner/engien deposit remover -- and Techron is the only one I would recommend in this case -- but just rely upon the regular use of Chevron gasoline to keep the engine clean.
(As an aside, I was talking to a Porsche SM the other day. He said at various dealers he's worked at in every tech's toolbox he'd see Techron. None of the dealer parts departments stock this stuff so the techs were having to buy this at some auto parts store. They were not getting it at the dealer using whatever dealer discount they would have been entitled to.)
Now I also switched to using Chevon gasoline for the Turbo. I would like to report the Turbo engine perked up some after a few tankfuls of Chevron but I can't really tell. However, the Turbo engine has always been a strong running energetic engine and it just might naturally -- so to speak -- run cleaner and thus accumulate fewer deposits which could interfere with the engine's combustion.
Also there is the difference in miles. The Turbo engine has just 136K miles on it. The Boxster engine on the other hand has 293K miles. Could be the Boxster engine is a bit dirtier engine thanks to the miles and it needs a fuel system/engine deposit cleaner while the Turbo engine being newer does not.
If you use top tier gas, you should never need something like this. It certainly won't hurt and I'm guilty of using it periodically as one of my cars is purely driven in stop and go and for those times I suspect bad or dirty fuel from the gas station(ie new tanker fillup). Obviously this is for pure psychological reasons just like a "couple" other items which has also been debated on these forums.
After driving out to Strugis for the motorcycle deal (I was a wuss and trailered the 72 Guzzi rat bike, but brought with a cooler full of beer and food, along with "camping" supplies), I found a few stations, especially in Watertown SD, didn't have any high octane fuel. So I'd say on road trips a bottle of some booster wouldn't be a bad idea, just in case.
As far as cleaner and stuff, I don't worry about that, and I don't worry about letting gas sit for a while (winter).
My one motorcycle, although I think a jet was clogged, started right up on 2 year old gas with just a quick cleaning of the carbs. Granted I don't have any rubber parts in it that I'm worried about, but it started and ran great. Now I will end up burning that gas off, but I just don't get worked up about this stuff if it's only over the winter or for normal use.
I do use name brand gas, and from what I've read that should be just fine and I wouldn't need any additives. Non name brand stuff and (from the car talk guys) run a take of name brand every few fillups and that should be fine.
I get the stop and go in the morning, which is broken up by using the on ramps to my advantage.
=)
I love hearing the sound of the engine floored up to 80mph when I first start out - doesn't last long, but it's fun when it does. Driving home is usually not as bad, and plenty of stop and go city driving due to stop signs, which is fun. Clutch isn't going to last as long, but not really worried about the engine or anything that gas could do to the engine.
