Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The only problem is the dealers I called that have serviced it don't have records, from either switching systems or not being in business.
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
If you drop trans to do aos/ims/rms - check oil cooler back there for leaks from coolant lines - this is a pretty common leak source at this age - replace rubber o-rings if cooler is in otherwise good condition.
Leading evidence: 'dealers i called' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'dealers i called' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check oil cooler back there' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Welcome
Great choice of a Targa. You will fine the rear hatch is really useful
Nice looking car!
IMHO, I would not lose sleep about the IMSB, the failures while real, are not as prevalent as many (especially here) make you think. If it gives you piece of mind, go for it. If not, probably do it with a clutch change.
Oil changes are really easy and as DIY, way less than $250 depending on what oil. (and lets not turn this into an oil thread please) $60-$150.
BTW, from the 3rd pic, it looks like one of the undercarriage plastic covers is loose
Did you get any service records? Have a PPI done? Where are you located?
The best thing you can do is take a performance driving class. You will be amazed at how great these cars are and how far you can push them and still be safe. Join your local PCA chapter and have a lot of fun driving it
Very nice car, congrats!
As stated above, any service records? If not, I would do all fluids in addition to your list. Also, air/cabin filter as they are cheap.
Another overlooked maintnance item is the transmission fluid. Should be done at 90k. The radiators could probably use a cleaning to clear out any leaves or debris.
Hopefully you at least have some records to point you in the right direction.
Thanks, I have been reading up. And actually the water pump, reservoir were on my list as well!
I have most of the service Records from the Maintenance Book, and the Carfax shows a bunch. The only problem is the dealers I called that have serviced it don't have records, from either switching systems or not being in business.
It has had this done in its life so far.

But the Trail Stops at about 30k miles ago. So that's why I want to do the IMS/Clutch/AOS/Waterpump/Coolant Tank/Plugs
Oh and here is a Pic of the Beast I have been building for the last few years.
You win!
I like both. Sounds to me like you have the big stuff covered. Are you going to do one of the aftermarket IMSB? or Porsche?
Also like you're wall art. You will fit right in here!
I love the American muscle cars for styling and have owned many. I gave up on them for crappy handling, though. (Of course, with upgraded suspensions they can still be great). Your Bird's a beaut!! Love that CLEAN engine bay.
Fantastic looking 996... congrats!
Both cars a very nice. Welcome!
Is there an option code inside the front trunk (frunk) lid? That will detail all of the options. One you obviously have is the color matched center console. The option codes will tell you if that was done at the factory.
If you drop trans to do aos/ims/rms - check oil cooler back there for leaks from coolant lines - this is a pretty common leak source at this age - replace rubber o-rings if cooler is in otherwise good condition.
If engine mounts were not done - that would be a good thing to also do - cheap and easy - and do trans mount and 2nd gear pop out fix if you have the box out ...
Targas are great to drive ... !!
Don't sweat it,
Rubik is....
how do I say this...
um...
dumb.
He's not smart.
He's dim, you see.
Not very bright.
Kinda stupid.
I feel like I'm not finding the words.
An imbecile?
Yes, there it is. He's an imbecile.
