Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think that is due to the extra air the engine is getting that isnt being seen by the MAF.
Leading evidence: 'extra air the engine is getting' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'extra air the engine is getting' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run bit lean' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Runs great when warmed up but I suspect it will be running a bit lean.

I plan to block off that port tomorrow with a plug and run the mod the proper way 😁

1.Use piece of a soda can cut large enough to cover the hole.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have read about all the different methods of air box mods but I wanted my setup to look stock. After doing this I am happy with the added intake noise but Im Not sure if this method is kosher for proper MAF readings.
1. remove air box and separate the 2 halfs
2. remove heinhoz box with 3 screws
3. Cut off the neck of the Heinholz box flush with the body
4. de-bur with sand paper
5. snap neck back into the air box lid.
6.pin the neck with 2 small screws to prevent the neck from pushing out the bottom while attaching the intake hose
6. re assemble air box and put back into the car.
easily returnable to stock with some 5 minute epoxy if desired. Sounds great but I did notice on a cold start the engine didnt idle all the smooth. I think that is due to the extra air the engine is getting that isnt being seen by the MAF. Opinions welcome.
Merry Christmas
You can't run it like that !!! You have ruined the air flow measurement of the MAF sensor.
The other ways of modding the air box found here on this forum are legit.

Update. This will now be called the soda can mod. Here is the revision to make this work as intended without bypassing the MAF and look 100% stock.
1.Use piece of a soda can cut large enough to cover the hole.
2. Use welders glue and sandwich the metal between the heinholz box and the neck.
3. Tighten down heinholz box to the intake housing and re assemble intake hoses
This is essentially the same result as the orange cap mod without needing to buy a new intake hose and it keeps the stock look.
I'm curious what the desire for keeping the stock look is? No judgement here!
I did the mod with a set from Flat6. Love it.

I think I was mainly just being cheap. After weighing the pros and cons of this technique I have decided to just order a new intake boot and cap the silencer box the traditional way. Sometimes re inventing the wheel isnt worth it 😂
