Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also used a spring compressor on the rear to be able to get the lower strut mount bolt out, it interfered with the control arm otherwise.
Leading evidence: 'Use spring compressor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust height' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Plan on a full day to do front & rear on a C4 if you have to adjust height for coilovers.

In a case like that, Id use a crowsfoot on a torque wrench.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was planning on paying someone to replace my struts and springs. Reading the Bentley book, it seems the back is really easy. Its says to remove bolt to swaybar, remove three nuts on strut mount and remove a bolt that holds the strut in. Is it that easy. I lowered my 986 and it seemed I had to loosen a lot of other stuff like bolts that hold axle to transmission. It seems to easy.
Also front is definitely above my pay grade (4S) so I am going to pay a shop to do that. Can I do the back and then drive 20 miles to shop? They will align to. Thanks
Its really that easy. Put the rear of the car on stands, pull the wheels, remove sway bar and 3 nuts from inside for top of strut. The lower bolt can be a little tricky. U may have to lift the assembly up with a jack to get it to clear the arm because it blocks the bolt at full droop.
Yes u should be fine for a 20mi drive for an aligment. If u dont seperate any other links your alignment wont change in the back unless the spring is a different height.
In my opinion, the front of the C2 is easier than the rear.
In the C4, the rear is easier than the front.
The C4 front really isn’t difficult, it’s just more time consuming.
Plan on a full day to do front & rear on a C4 if you have to adjust height for coilovers.
I have a special wheel carrier spreader from Schwaben that makes the front struts easier to do.
But from now on if I do coilovers installs, I’m going to require the car for 2 days.
Last time took a bunch of extra hours because of the owners request for height changes.
It made for a LONG day.
How does one torque the bolt that holds the strut to the mount? If I remember correctly, I had to put a flat head on the shaft to keep from spinning and use a wrench to tighten. Im using bilstein b8s.
