Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, my first post on here and not the happy I love my Porsche post I was hoping for. I had an issue with being unable to select reverse, this was diagnosed to a knackered and incorrectly installed gear cable. I got this replaced under warranty for a brand new cable. However this cable has now become disconnected from the transmission 3 times in 3 weeks, twice the blue connector and once the black connector (each time the white plastic cup has come out of the coloured connector and remained on the ball joint). I have since taken it back to have another new cable fitted assuming the first new cable to be faulty. However on inspection there appeared to be no fault with the cable. Now Im concerned the same will happen with the 2nd new cable as well and the garage are at a loss as to the cause and want to open up the gearbox to investigate, a cost theyre not willing to cover. Thought Id see if anyone on here has a suggestion before this gets expensive?

Joe u have been in a tear lately? Not enough coffee? Its a very common problem. Most people solve it with a zip tie or safety wire. All u have to do is secure the cable to the mount, the factory clips are known to fail. There are many pics in the board and google to show u examples. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/359678-shifter-cable-problem-with-pics-help.html The search engine in this site is not that good. I just googled "zip tie 996 porsche cables" and a dozen threads popped up.
