Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I removed the pads and dampening shims from my 996. One got a little out of shape when I pried off the pad. The other three I cleaned up and removed all the adhesive. They look fantastic. My question is, if I want to reuse, what can I use to get the sticky ness back so they stick to the pad. Also, I think the answer is no but do I need anything between the shims and pistons (lube, other)? Thank you.

They still work fine without the adhesive. Skip it and save yourself the hassle of separating them next time. No lube required.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there any special order when installing the shims? Do I install in the calipers and then slide the discs in? I imagine this would be tough with the adhesive. Or do I stick to the pads, put in calipers and then slide the the caliper, pads and dampers over the rotor? i wont worry about the glue for the ones without. Thanks

POST 5Original post

Personally, I found it easier to put the shims in place on the caliber pistons, and slide the pads in after.

POST 6Original post

Put shims in place, then slide pads in. Having the pistons pushed all the way makes it all much easier.

I just reused my shims. Used some glue that's made for the application at the autoparts store. Applied them to the new pads. Installed the pads into the caliper and then slid the caliper over the rotor. You need to make sure your reservoir cap is open to breathe. Compressed the caliper pistons before installing the new pads.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
