Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Happy New Year! I left my 996 at my parents house after Christmas for my dad to enjoy for a while. I am waiting for a set of Feal 441s to arrive. He called yesterday and said that the alarm triggered while they were inside the house and the car was locked at the time. He unlocked the car and started it and then relocked. It triggered again twice more in about 15 minute intervals but nothing since yesterday. Any idea what this could be? It wasnt raining and hasnt really rained much. Could this be a sign of a weak battery? Many Thanks and all the best for 2021.

POST 2Original post

Mine does this. Did some research and there's various things people have done to fix it (or attempted to), inner door switch I think was one of them. It's not from a weak battery but something with the interlocking/alarm system itself (from my understanding). It goes in spurts like you noted, mine hasn't gone off in almost half a year now so I kind of stopped investigating. Sorry can't offer advice, but it's definitely not just an issue with yours.

I do have an intermittent fault in the drivers side micro switch that pulls the window down. Maybe thats related. Thanks again.

POST 4Original post

The alarm control module actually "logs" the switch/sensor that sets off the last 10 alarm activation's,(eg. the glove box, radio protection, interior sensor, door switches ect.) This log can be viewed by PST2 or by PIWIS I/II/III, I'm not sure Durametric can view this log ( I don't think so ?) Just an FYI encase the problem is not the switch you suspect, or can not be found by simple means..

POST 5Original post

I used to have people at work tell me that my alarm was going off. Turns out, I place a sun shield inside on my windshield, and when the interior heats us, the shield moves a bit, setting off the interior motion sensor. The fix is to lock the car with 2 pushes of the lock button, giving a little horn sound. This disables the interior motion sensor. Also do this if you park with your windows down, or any situation where something inside the car may move.

My dad actually said he thought it could be related to him leaving the sunshade unfurled on the passenger seat. I said theres no way a car of this era has motion sensors even though my contemporaneous A4 had them. That would make him right. Lets keep this between us forum participants. Thanks.
