I don't have any interior shots yet but I have a recaro Hans driver seat with a vertex steering wheel, cobra passenger seat, roll bar, and the rear is completely gutted along with the carpet and I installed track mats.

The only way I can see of building a 3.4L and keeping the same displacement is to make a very peaky motor with high revs past 10k using race gas/high octane fuel.

Haha glad to see my work was received well here...
My avatar was chosen for the simple fact that I was in the military and because of 4 overseas deployments I was fortunate not only enough to survive as a infantryman but blessed to save some coins to purchase my dream car.
I'll be the first to admit the direction is not for everyone probably no one on here.
But I am a younger generation owner, this is not my daily, and this is something my friends and I are building ourselves.
I will be matching the "look" to the hp and plan on building an all motor 3.4 that will hopefully push around 4-500hp.
Why not just buy a stock turbo you say? Because I'm not that type of owner I could care less what car I am driving I purchase and build them to my desires; ranging from those "rice rocket" jdm Hondas, "drift missiles" nissans, and "VIP" slammed, deep dish wheels, and over-cambered stance.
The descriptions are in quotations because I feel I put quality parts and no corners are cut unlike 99% of the mentioned vehicles you see which give the scene a negative stereotype.
Cheers
Keep doing what you are doing man, I am loving this.
Go full out on the madmax/death race look. Do stick some 3/8 steel plates on the car too, your 911 will be the most bad-*** ever.
I'm not sure the stock M96 Engine would be able to handle the additional horsepower. I would be way too worried about getting 500 miles on the new engine followed by one of 3924.6 modes of failure. I would have to think a stock turbo with 200,000 miles will be more reliable than a 40,000 mile M96 amped up to 400+ hp.
That being said.... I think it will make a great looking track car.
Good job. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but car modding is just that, being individual and doing what you like. There's a lot of sheep on here and it's refreshing from time to time to see a wolf out there.
Can you explain or provide a higher res pic of your avatar? I think it looks pretty cool. Is there a real version of that?
There's quite a few SC and TC m96 owners that's had there setup for quite a few years now.
At least we know the block itself can handle 771hp as Bisimoto has demonstrated on one of their projects.
I like it. I can appreciate radical designs and departures from "factory".
I'm not sure about the rear apron thing under the exhaust, but I can appreciate your design and effort. That's just my opinion though, and we know what those are worth!
That's going to be a one hell of a track toy. I think you are going to make all the track rats jealous once everything is pieced together.
Oh and its nice to see you back Alp..
Love what you're doing here, but I am biased...lol. I'm not done w/ mine yet, but if you look at some of my previous posts...you'll see that I, too, ventured away from the norm in pursuit of what I want. My future plans are aimed more toward a "rocket bunny" look that may or may not be well received here. The aero we fabricated is directed toward functionality and provides a noticeable difference in stability during turn in, at higher speeds, etc. (seat of pants testing not wind tunnel). I haven't done jack squat to the motor though. I've been hesitant to tear into it due to my limited knowledge of the M96. I'm very interested in what your plans are. I was under the impression extracting more power from the 3.4 was a pipe dream, unless you go forced induction. Would like to hear your thoughts on it.
Cheers,
-Josh
Definitely gonna need some motor to backup the wings, splitter, diffuser, canards etc etc. Keep us updated. I'm digging it so far... I'll agree with previous poster on the olive colored decklid too. full body would be badass...
Glad you made it home safely after all your deployments. Cant tell you how much we appreciate your sacrifice and service to this country.
Thanks 996pp.
To the OP, if this is indeed going to be more track than show, you might wanna get the 3rd radiator if you don't have one, flip the air diverter panel behind it upside down to deflect air through the vents in your aftermarket bumper and cover up the underside vents. This will prevent lift for you, assuming you're not all "FUH RAZE!!!", lol.
500 RWHP is easy on a 3.4. CAI, GT3 TB, IPD, 1000CC Injectors, Adjustable FPR, Ebay headers, XPipe, 800 Cell Cats, Tune the ECU to match and you're all set.
I'm not sure my clutch would enjoy 500whp. However, I'd be OK with replacing the clutch once a year in exchange for 2x what my car currently makes @ the wheels...
Glad to see the 2nd go around of comments were more welcoming.
To answer a couple questions
The lid was purchased of a damaged cup 996 I don't plan on respraying my car.
As far as I'm concerned I spend enough on aero and other misc. interior goodies.
Right now I have a short shifter, cai, exhaust, and headers will try and get a video soon so I can share the sound of it. Trust me the sound warrants the look.
To piggy back of Itustler that's pretty much what I plan as well as rebuilding the internals to handle the hp.
I'm still doing my research so don't quote me on anything but I suppose I'll be the guinea pig.
No scientifics or engineering was put in the diffuser but I believe the design should hold some function. And if it were to flip it wouldn't that help push air to the bumper which in turn will cause drag?
Also with the lid I have those new additional vents on the trunk to help with the cooling.
Since it is all bolted on I plan on doing track times with them mounted and unmounted and go from there. This build is all done in house with engine help from a local porsche mechanic shop so adjustments and changes can be easily made.
I don't have any interior shots yet but I have a recaro Hans driver seat with a vertex steering wheel, cobra passenger seat, roll bar, and the rear is completely gutted along with the carpet and I installed track mats.
Lastly thank you to those for commenting in regards to my military service!

-kirkwoodloyal update your thread I can't wait to see what you have coming seems like we share the same vision and interest
OP says "I will be matching the "look" to the hp and plan on
building an all motor 3.4
that will hopefully push around 4-500hp." I'd love to see someone build a reliable M96 making that power. I suspect a bottle and/or a blower will ultimately be involved...
To pull 100-200hp more out of an all motor 3.4 996 N/A engine is not even close to a realistic goal. Unless you are planning to throw some stupid amount of money at it and even that might not matter. It's pretty difficult to get a lot more power out of a naturally aspirated engine when the engine is already a high performance one. Force induction is more realistic and/or increasing the displacement. As for Nitrous Oxide, that's a form of forced induction (in a chemical form).
To say to someone, a male car enthusiast at that, they can't get more hp from their engine is simply put absurd.
Thats all I will say about that. I don't want 400-500 hp that is force fed.
I would find much more pleasure in my NA with its ludacris exterior styling out performing a factory turbo that money bought.
There's no passion in ownership for me that way.
I'm allotting 10-15k to my engine build by the way.
This is ricer talk. Throwing horsepower number around like it was nothing is pointless. How the heck exactly are you going to pull ATLEAST 100 more, and then another 100 more, out of an NA 3.4 and make it stay alltogether?
400-500 crank HP will be difficult on NA without FI. Do you have some specifics on how/who will get that much power out of the motor? I know that F6I has some N/A builds, but they seem to be very expensive.
I played with 100 shot of N20 on my 996 a few times. With tiptronic it was an absolute blast from the dig. I hit it at 3,000 RPM...and it was good. How long could have M96 taken it, I don't know and will never find out.
I am looking forward towards your build and progress.
The Ferrari 458 holds one of the NA records for highest hp/ltr at close to 124hp/ltr. Doing the math will yield you slightly over 4 and a quarter. That's if you had Ferrari resources.
Not saying it can't be done but it will not be easy nor cheap. I would love to be proven wrong though.
I think we all applaud the OP's passion and direction. We hear occasionally that this or that builder is going to build a engine in that range, however no one ever comes up with a dyno sheet to prove it. If the OP truly wants to know how to go about approaching those numbers in a M96/97 series, he should allot a portion of his budget to attending the courses that Flat Six puts on.
Personally I don't think the op's original goal is feasible by any engine builder.
Case in point. Porsche had a 996 mk1 GT3 3.4L engine car that only went to 360hp. Later they homologated a 996 mk1 GT3 R but that one was increased to 3.6L and only went up to 380hp(some have measured it higher).
The only way I can see of building a 3.4L and keeping the same displacement is to make a very peaky motor with high revs past 10k using race gas/high octane fuel. Of course this kind of engine will need to be rebuilt often every few thousand miles and not have a refined low idle or power characteristics at all.
Tri-point has gotten close at one time with Mazda motors for the SCCA touring challenge at one point awhile ago.
Also to note that it is far easier to create more usable broadband torque of the boxer configuration than it is to make all out peak hp compared to inline and V motors.
If this is not going to see 100% of track time, I'd rather have lower overall numbers and retain a nice area under the curve rather than have overall hp bragging rights, but that's just me.
Forget it I'll just use this forum for buying parts and IMS horror stories.
I have way to much PTSD issues to sit here and try to explain what I was trying to achieve with this build.
If what I'm working on doesn't work then so be it my plan my dream failed. I'm only applying my engine building knowledge as a general basses I could be way off but who cares point was I was trying to share my build and progress with Porsche enthusiast I guess when you deal with purest it's fighting a uphill battle.
I would of loved to shared my progress and receive guidance but at the end of the day I built this for myself and I'll be happy with whatever route I conclude my journey on
Cheers
Stick around 888. There are plenty of experienced members here. The power numbers you want are tough to come by. you'll need larger displacement and a host of other mods to reach 400 rwhp. Look into LN engineering rebore options. You've set your goal very high which is great but straight line speed in 996 will always be limited. These cars shine in the corners, exiting corners especially. Build yourself a balanced car. Re-gear, tune, lighten and add some sticky rubber and no doubt you'll be satisfied with the performance. But most of all get seat time at a track. I can tell you there is no better place to learn what your car is capable of than a closed course. It is addictive and humbling at the same time.
That's fine by me. Talk is cheap. Come back when you are able to achieve 400 NA hp from your 3.4L. Otherwise everything else is just cheap talk and F&F to me. We've all seen big wings and aero around here several times. What we haven't seen is a high hp all motor car.
Also no need to bring in the PTSD into this. I've got buddies that suffer through it but never publicly admit it or use it in any way to warrant any responses.
As 888 said before its his dream car, so what if he doesn't get exactly 100 or 200 more rwhp? If he only gets 90 or 100 more that's fantastic! It's people like this that push these cars and engines to new levels. I am sure folks were saying similar about Raby when he first started. I hope he continues to share in the thread. As I for one would definitely like to see how things turn out!
Regarding the PTSD comment, It doesn't look like 888 was trying to get any response, simply that he has other things that add stress and trying to share a fun project shouldn't be one of them. As someone who deals with this on a daily basis at VA facilities, never admitting it is one of the issues that many Vets have and it leads to more issues. We encourage them to find something that keeps them engaged and stomping on a person's ambitions is not doing anything for anyone.
If it took it too personally, my apologizes. 888 keep the build going, I know there are many who want to see how it turns out.
Kilo Whiskey out
This a technical forum, if you can't take constructive criticism or answer technical questions, then why do you even bother starting a thread like this?
Yup.....remember fierofly? Bought a roller C4S and did a LS conversion and left because he couldn't take the criticism. He was also military. I for one hope the OP sticks with the updates on the car. Very much feel indebted to those who serve like 888 and fierofly.
Bingo. I also want to state this is an enthusiast forum for discussing the Porsche 996. Let's leave everything else out that's not relevant to discussing the 996 as there are more appropriate places for that and absolutely adds no value to the discussion.
To clarify for Jetson, my buddies and their close families/friends acknowledge they have some form of ptsd but my buddies never bring it up for any excuse as they don't want any special treatment. One of them is even in LE and never flashes his badge or anything either.
My 93 yo neighbor still drives and shovels his own sidewalk and is a vet and pow. Still wonder how he's so composed and not messed up after being in prison camps, losing half his body weight, starving and fighting in 0 degree temps, losing a bunch of his buddies right in front of him, going through the Great Depression, etc. Simply amazing and awe inspiring.
Sorry for the tangent myself and back to the topic. Although I have doubts in achieving anything over 400hp on a 3.4 mill, I'm still hoping OP would be willing to push the limits of the 3.4L outside of the normal bolt ons.
I have thus far only seen the avg enthusiast port and polish the head with mixed observations. Nobody yet that I know of have put in high compression pistons or did any extensive headwork including reshaping combustion chambers or valves.
For anyone that does this regardless of hp outcome still gets my respect for having the ***** and dedication to try it.
But for me personally if I went through all that trouble of splitting the block, I would go for Frankenstein setup and use the 3.6 bottom end and convert it to 3.8. Of course then, that defeats the challenge of wringing out the most with a 3.4.
+996. I communicated to 888 offline and apologized if I was being offensive in anyway. Although there maybe different opinions on what is possible or feasible, I think most on here would like him to continue and provide updates. Hell, it's a lot better than reading "will a green cap mod increase hp over the Orange?".
