Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Lucky the fire extinguisher was there - put it out quickly and disconnected the battery.

The owner of the shop I use said, "best $40 you ever spent, huh?!"

On the way home, I decided to take a cruise on Mulholland, check the suspension, take a few pics...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Last night we finally finished our 996 street / track car. Found a '99 C2 with good bones and a blown engine. We rebuilt the motor (runs really well), 997 seats, tweeted the suspension and Fister exhaust, put in a back/half cage and...a fire extinguisher. This morning, I was having a blast driving around easy to break in the engine and bed the brakes, and went to the audio store for a new radio.
On the way home, I decided to take a cruise on Mulholland, check the suspension, take a few pics... I'm crushing nice and easy, when I notice smoke coming from under the dash - and then small flames behind the fuse panel.
Lucky the fire extinguisher was there - put it out quickly and disconnected the battery. But man!!! - the car's a MESS and took most of a day to get towed to the shop.
Well - I figure I'm pre-disastered now. Just have to figure out why and fix it... All in all, coulda been better...
Glad you are ok!
Lucky you were able to get it shut down. I had a similar type experience with my track car. Was just moving it around in the garage and blew a cam plate bolt up through the valve cover. Next time I intended to drive it was on track and that could have been really ugly.
Only made an appointment for radio install later in the week....
We'll go in for a look tomorrow morning. At this point, I can't really imagine the cause...
It may have been stored for as much as year - so who knows. We'll look for rodent teeth marks!
For what it's worth...after reading this I just purchased a mount and fire extinguisher for my build.
thanks for sharing but sorry it happened hope the repairs aren't too bad on your wallet.
Fire extinguisher is a great call. The owner of the shop I use said, "best $40 you ever spent, huh?!"
On the other hand - I really like the way the car turned out. On the drive home Friday night, I stopped for gas, and had several guys come up and ask about it. And it's crazy fun to drive!!
