This is not a probability of success.

I know the water pump was recently replaced, I'll start with the thermostat and and flush it all out.

Those will all be getting replaced when I upgrade to 18's in the spring.

I'll be cleaning the car tonight to get rid of all the salt and hopefully snapping some decent pics.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I was hoping to start a awesome thread loaded with pictures of my new 2000 911, but alas, I've just made it home. So, some details first:
2000 911 C2
6 speed
124k
Gray interior
Clean PPI, owned by former PCA member.
I got a pile of maintenance paperwork and a very thorough PPI done by a reputable shop, so I sent the seller a deposit last week and flew from Chicago IL to Birmingham AL, yesterday morning. I arrived in Birmingham at 11:50 AM and the seller picked me up at the airport and brought me to his house which was only 10 minutes away. We pulled up and I saw the car in the driveway and immediately knew I couldn't possibly leave without it!
Took it for a test drive down some awesome twisty roads for about 8 minutes and sped back to finish the deal. We shook hands and off I went, I had an 11.5hr drove back to WI.
First pit stop because it only had about 1/2 tank. It was 54* and sunny..
First pit stop for fuel and a leg stretch:
And then... Illinois
Cars were going in the ditch left and right, almost got smoked by an F250, and I nearly joined the ditch crowd before deciding that wrecking my brand new-to-me 911 would really suck, so I stopped at the creepiest motel I've ever seen. $49.99 a night and a heater unit that kept the room at a brisk 49*...
At this point I have covered approximately 440 of the 822 miles to get back home..
This morning:
Impromptu 997 headlight conversion!!!!!
I was so glad to leave the motel alive I had to snap a pic:
200 miles later and the snow came back.. I stopped at some random rest area and talked to an older gentleman who admired the car and my "desire" to drive it in this weather
And this is proof they don't melt:
That's all for now! I'll be cleaning the car tonight to get rid of all the salt and hopefully snapping some decent pics. Also going to clean out those drainage things that tend to clog up and flood the interior..
Thanks everyone!
The only issues that need addressing right now would be some paint correction and the fact that my heat is not blowing "hot", rather it's closer to room temperature... Coolant level is correct so IDK where to start looking.
Any chance you bought that car on eBay? I think I made him an offer, but I decided I wanted a C4S instead. If I remember correctly, this one was priced very reasonably. Congrats on your purchase!
At one point I swear I thought out loud, "I'm about to become a statistic." as I slid towards a bridge beam.. But alas, I've survived and here I am!
Some older Yokohamas in the rear, and some cheap brand in the front, Achilles maybe? I don't recall, but they're not good. Those will all be getting replaced when I upgrade to 18's in the spring.
It was listed on eBay twice, first time I made an offer and he didn't accept. He listed it the second time with a reserve and I made another offer, he accepted, and I then began the PPI process. I couldn't be happier with it, and I hope you found/find your C4S!
Congrats on the new car. Just got my own new-to-me 996 as well. Awesome cars, though as a former Wisconsite, I'm both a little jealous of your epic journey home, and at the same time, glad I don't have to wait for winter to be over before getting after it. (Though you did a good job of not really waiting for the big thaw).
Congrats again!
CORRECT... I am both truly amazed and thankful that you arrived home in tact. You are a very careful driver. I wish you the very best in the future should you ever again venture out during those conditions. Due to my argument with a guide rail on an 'on ramp' with half an inch of fresh snow down, I for one, will never take my 996 out again if the road surface becomes unfavorable.
"The only issues that need addressing right now would be some paint correction and the fact that my heat is not blowing "hot", rather it's closer to room temperature... "
It might have the low temp. thermostat in it, although at 170 degrees or wherever it opens, I'd think you'd still get plenty of heat... Maybe no thermostat? Maybe just really cold ambient temps? I'm sure you'll get it worked out. Awesome first trip! Good luck with 'er
There, FIFY. Don't be goin' soft on us Hurdi. With the current war on boobies, we're relying on you to keep things interesting.
Ryan - For your low heat, trying changing the thermostat and flushing the cooling system.
On the heat issue, there was post about the divert door in the heater box having it's foam cover come apart and not letting full heat through. Search on it. Nice car, and great adventure story. You gonna love the car.
Welcome neighbor to the crowd.
You're a brave man for driving that new to you Porsche through this winter. Let us know if the blood comes back to your knuckles after all that white knuckle action behind the wheel.
Chicago is really increasing in 996 owners lately.
Thanks everyone!! I know the water pump was recently replaced, I'll start with the thermostat and and flush it all out. The temp gauge appeared to heat up at a "normal" rate and never went above the halfway mark during my drive.
Got it cleaned up last night
What a great introduction of you and your car. It is a bonding that in years to come will be hard to break. No chains? Even more remarkable. Car looks wonderful.
Thanks again everyone! I'm already spending thousands of dollars in my head in mods I need (want)
GT3 wheels, c4s lip, gt3/aero/ducktail wing, H&R springs.... Before I do all that I'm going to put a couple thousand miles on her and try to get everything sorted out.
Save your 17" wheels for some good snows.
I bet your heat problem is the "mixer" door as Third Reef said. The door has large holes in it that are covered by Porsches special "disintegrating" foam. This happens to cars in FL and other states with similar climates, IE: hot & humid.

Congrats on your new 911. Love it in white. Without a doubt, you'll never forget your drive home in the snow. Has to be one of the best post purchase drives.
