Suggestion

I wouldn't recommend the back seats for full time occupancy but certainly much better than having none.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How do the rear seats in a 996 turbo compare with a 993. The kids are getting big. I have a 993.

POST 3Original post

My 5 year old twins fit just fine. Especially for short drives, it works. I can't conpare it to a 993 as I always wanted but never owned one.

POST 4Original post

I think age 8+ is when it may get cramped for the avg kid back there. YMMV The best range is between 2-7 to be back there imo.

POST 5Original post

My wife can fit in the back of a 996 without issue and she's probably bigger than the average 12 year old.

POST 6Original post

996 seats are ok for me, the worst thing is the rear window is within 2" of my head & I'm 5'10". I have driven a Turbo with a 300 lb person my height in the back seat, & they didn't complain much.

POST 7Original post

I think the size of the front seat passengers plays into this discussion also. I'm 6'4", so my driver's seat is back as far as it will go. As a result, there's virtually no leg room in the back seat on the driver's side. The front seat back is roughly 1" or less from the rear seat.

Ahh! But do you sit in both front seats? Ignore that, i note that you mention the size of the front seat passenger. I wouldn't recommend the back seats for full time occupancy but certainly much better than having none.

POST 9Original post

My 10 & 13 year olds fit ok in the back of my 996. I'm 5'10" and don't have to adjust my seat for my son to fit behind me. I wouldn't make them sit back there for a long drive, but it's fine for short trips. It was a lot tighter putting them I the back of my 993 cab, but that was more due to them being in car seats back then.

POST 10Original post

A 5' 5" woman fit in the back seat of my 996 coupe with my 5'4" wife in the passanger seat in front of her. The back seats are fine for short trips to dinner and maybe even up to a one hour trip. But that is about it. I tried making out with my wife in the back seat but we became trapped. Luckily we could reach our cell phones and called the Fire Departement to get us out.

POST 11Original post

My whole family of 4 rides in my 996 regularly. I am 6' and wife is 5'2" and my 10 and 8yo fit in the back just fine. I would think a long trip would be rough but quick trips under 30 minutes don't result in complaints. They typically ask to take the Porsche and then encourage me to drive faster.

POST 12Original post

It does depend on the size of the front seat passengers. My wife is 5'4", so she can move the front seat up and make room for my 12 year old behind her. My 9 year old sits behind me. The cabriolet helps with headroom, but the rear seats are very upright, so the back seat remains an option for short trips only (usually less than 30 mins; occasionally an hour).
