Snap on sued Daytona stating it was the identical jack in every way as their own.
Leading evidence: 'identical jack in every way as their own' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'identical jack in every way as their own' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Test materials' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Brian, are you talking about using the bar to go from one side to the other (instead of front to rear, like lifters)?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought this at Harbor Freight. The best quality stuff they sell is Daytona jacks. I am going to modify it so it will go from side to side jack point. I will also use jack stands.
My brother in law is a union welder. I do not
know the exact width of the jack points from side
to side I will today after work unless someone else
has a 99 car and knows already.
If it cant be done its still a useful tool for $50.
Yup your right on the money. I think will turn out to be a great tool for lifting the entire front or rear both wheels off the ground at the same time.
Thank you for your response and suggestion. I have been thinking on this one for a while. With exactly five and a half feet just to reach jack point to jack point I have been considering an idea for a while. When I saw it my thoughts were all about adding metal and I backed off. This is two months now of thinking on how it could best work. Im open to some friendly ideas or if you think my idea wont work then why?
Im not even sure. Box hasnt been open and I have the receipt.
What I have come up with is an 6X6 78 or an inch or two longer with top and bottom side covered with 1/4 inch thick and 6 wide screwed into the wood. I have confirmed with a local metal dealer this can be obtained.
I am no engineer in fact far from it but thats what I have come up with. Car will be up on ramps which may be sitting on 2 X 12 for more height.
Maybe its a stupid idea but its what I am considering. Thanks
I do like those lift bars and I may end up with them. Ive seen many clever ways to put a car in the air.
I want to be safe and I have two pair of good jack stands.
The issue I see is once you have one side of the car in the air where do you put the front jack stand? The only place in the front that looks safe to me is on the front jacking point. At least in the rear you can place a jack stand under the cross member or jack under there and place the jack stand under the side jacking point. When you raise the side of the car from the rear jacking point the front comes up high enough to get a jack stand under it.
Joel I dont disagree with you. My idea is for this beam I will make will go directly under the car at the jack points. I will install pins to fit the holes and life front both tires simultaneously.
As for jack stands they will be placed under the beam because the cross beam I purchased alone is 37. So both tires up and jack stands up remove factory jack beam if necessary and do what I have to to the car.
Brian, are you talking about using the bar to go from one side to the other (instead of front to rear, like lifters)? So you can lift just the front wheels, without the rear, or visa versa? I think maybe I'm missing what you're trying to accomplish.
I was thinking I would use it to take both rear tires up at the same time.
Although its really not as good an idea as other things I am seeing. I guess I just became interested in it and was hoping I could use it. There are several easier ways to go about this so it will likely be abandoned and returned.
I too looked at these type spreader bars back few years ago, but came to a similar realization that there are better ways out there. "If" you just want to lift the two rear wheels at once, a low profile jack slide under from the rear bumper to the cross member (just forward of the sump) allows you to lift both rear wheels and place jack stands under the normal lift points.
I have the Harbor Freight low profile jack and it works great. It clears the center of my sump plate by about 1/4-1/2.
I then use these low profile jack stands to safely keep her in the air:

Edit: looks like theyve gone up in price. I bought a pair for $64 just a few months ago.
Interesting fact about the yellow Daytona jack sold at Harbor Frieght.
Snap on sued Daytona stating it was the identical jack in every way as their own.
At the time snap on was $950
Currently they are $209 cannot use coupon.
Snap on lowered their ****** to $750 currently.
I would agree with anyone who says HF sells a lot of low quality junk. However they have some gems. I got this information from YouTube. They also sell a $20 breaker bar that you can use a coupon on so $18. Same as snap on $100.
There is plenty of good reasons to go to HB and good info on you tube on tried and tested materials. I am happy to have one. Just down the road from me.
That Daytona jack is not long enough to roll under the rear of the car and then pump the handle more than an inch or two. I have a similar HB (Big Red) jack and I could pump the handle up and down an inch or so or it would hit the rear bumper. You would need a longer jack, like Longacre, but then the costs go way up. And it definitely is not long enough to roll under from the front of the car.
