Back to the beta test: MOST only affects the fiber optic signal to the amp.

A CDR 23 uses MOST (optical) connector G for connecting the CD changer and does not have an electrical connection on the radio that could be used for the adaptor

The Tranzit Blu unit for Porsche uses the CD changer port for input to the radio and for power to the bluetooth unit, which I presume is similar to what you are doing.

I tried another antenna interface with a hard wire 1/8" for the headphone jack that didn't work well at all, so I was skeptical at first, but it's a different approach.
We have designed a kit that has all components/tools needed to easily and permanently
add Bluetooth to the stock radio head unit
(sacrifices multi-disc CD player if installed)
. Head unit tested is a Becker CR-220 (non-MOST) in my 2002 Turbo. I believe other head units are candidates as well (TBD). This will be nearly plug and play, with a small Bluetooth receiver that resides at the console storage shelf/cubby. The device can switch tracks during music play and receive cell phone calls. Beta cost will be 1/2 of retail price. In exchange for being a beta tester, well need feedback/photos of the installation and suggested opportunities for improvement. Looking for 10 beta testers. I put the beta tester program up on my website
HERE
. Or email or PM me if interested (see below).
Dave
So I have the CDR23, I am guessing this is the MOST system? Been looking for a cost effective way to add Bluetooth. I tried a cigarette plug in FM transmitter but does not work well and drops signals constantly as I travel. Do not want to change out entire system (including amp) since I would like to keep the OEM look.
Here is what I was able to find for the wiring schematic on CDR23. It appears to have a plug area for external CD player (see socket C2) but I do not have multi CD in car.
TEXCWA what do you see on the back of your head unit. The Socket C2 appears to be in the middle of the other two plugs. There must be a dummy plug there on yours?? Or maybe its not needed? From the interweb search, it looks like the middle connector is green, but no idea if that matters.
I have not removed the head unit yet. Was hoping to get some info on integrating a Bluetooth before removing (seeing if it is even possible) From what I have read, these units (being fiber optic units) are not compatible with many accessories. I have replaced head units in all my cars and trucks including installation of high power amps, new speakers and making custom made tuned ported sub inclosures but none of these were "fiber optic".
Hi Dave,

Best of luck.

The pic you posted looks like a CDR 220
I'm looking for something that adds bluetooth to the factory setup also.
Not interested in changing the headunit or amp (I have the MOST CDR23 setup).
Thinking about a Dension but the bluetooth version doesn't work with the CDR23 so it would have to be a Dension + Bluetooth to AUX which im not too keen on.
Yes this is a beta test. I have looked into sponsorship for Rennkit, but for whatever reason IB couldn't work out the same deal it offered other startups. I will hit them up again in 2017.
Back to the beta test: MOST only affects the fiber optic signal to the amp. This is the electrical signal to the CD player. I've confirmed the following head units as candidates (there may be others!): CR-220, CDR-220, CDR22, CDR32. Here is a picture of the connector:
Look at a transitBlu (or something like that) it connects at the antenna
I have successfully been using one of the bluetooth to RF modulators and it works pretty well. Not as good a s a builtin Bluetooth, but good in any case. You do have to tune your radio to the selected frequency to use it

MOST also is the connection to the CD changer for audio at least on a CDR 23
"MOST also is the connection to the CD changer for audio at least on a CDR 23" JayG you are saying there are no electronics between the head unit and the remote CD player, it is ONLY fiber optics? I am hoping there is still an electronic signal to tell the CD Changer to start up, etc. I had MOST in my '03 C4S, wish I'd paid more attention to it.
Haven't a clue, sorry. I don't have a CD changer in my Boxster with CDR 23 and my Targa has aftermarket head and amp so I have no way of checking.
It could all be via the fiber
Any takers?
To the original poster -
I'd hate to burst your bubble as you appear to have put a lot of effort into this, but have you done your research about competition in this area? Tranzit Blu has a plug & play unit for the CDR220 and other Becker radios that works flawlessly. What do you expect will be the edge to your product - price, features?
The Tranzit Blu unit for Porsche uses the CD changer port for input to the radio and for power to the bluetooth unit, which I presume is similar to what you are doing.
Yep, this is true! Although I had hopes that a Bluetooth dongle made for the old Bose ipod docks might work! Yet to be tested though, I made a thread about it here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=932302
The transit blu unit adds a signal into the antenna in not the cd changer. I think you're thinking of the dension gateway which makes the most think it's a cd changer but it only allows aux not Bluetooth.
I'm still interested in a digital Bluetooth option into the CDR-23
Hey Dave I'd say it's relatively straight forward to install the itransit if you're handy with car electronics. It takes the antenna in from the head unit into the itransit then the itransit goes into the head unit.
It's much less complicated than the dension which requires you to loop into the fibre optics and have the cd changer option activated (if you dont have one).
Although I've actually never attempted either of them due to indecision and the fact neither option is actually that good.
The downside of the itransit is that it's still an analogue signal tapped into the aerial which means the quality will never surpass anything more than a good strength radio station.
However the downside to the dension is you've only got 3 options - aux, ipod and usb and none of those are that great compared to the quality of Bluetooth!
Hence why a good digital Bluetooth option with a straightforward digital install is so appealing to me!
Although I could get a PCM2 and use the latest dension with Bluetooth built into it.
If I can help let me know, although I'm in Australia so I might not be much help!
Kudos to OP for tackling this. Sounds like a better approach than Tranzit Blue, however I've had the Tranzit for a couple of years and love it. I tried another antenna interface with a hard wire 1/8" for the headphone jack that didn't work well at all, so I was skeptical at first, but it's a different approach.
Actually, with any of them, the hardest job is getting the head unit out!
I'm pretty sure the CDR23 will work. Worst thing that happens is the beta tester pulls the head unit out, verifies that the plug that comes with the kit will not work, and sends it all back for a full refund. Tranzit Blu and other generic devices plug into the antenna wire. The sound quality is pretty poor (ask me how I know).
You are incorrect. The model I have plugs into the CD changer port and is a very simple installation (other than routing the wire for the mic). It does NOT use the antenna connection and it does not require a separate power source. It automatically connects to my iPhone every time and works perfectly.

I have no affiliation with the seller or the manufacturer. I'm just a happy customer who wants to dispel incorrect information about a very good product.
I would have to think it would work since its the output of the head unit that's digital and would think the CD changer input I'd analog. What would the cost be if I did a full photo documented install with positive response (that is if it works out). Please pm me if you like.
Ok, now I see, the kit you bought is a generic Tranzit Blu, with an added pigtail with the CD player connector at one end and a stereo plug jack at the other end, that plugs into the "cell phone headphone jack" from the Tranzit Blu kit. Glad that you like your set up. The whole idea is to convert these old head units to bluetooth.
This is a specific unit for Becker Radios. It plugs into the CD changer. End of Story. No other connections except for the microphone and a single button to advance the song, connect to Siri, or to hang up a call.
The photo on the site isn't accurate.
There are no stereo plugs, jacks, ribbons, or bows. Just wireless Bluetooth that works flawlessly. If it were me, I'd examine one to see if it does everything I'm trying to accomplish before investing time and money into reinventing a well-designed and relatively inexpensive wheel.
Ah I see, wasn't aware of that product.
I guess the solution that Dave is thinking about would be for Most systems as you're all sorted.
Im still interested to see what he comes up with. There are many options for the CDR220 but for the most systems there is only the transit via antenna and dension.
From my understanding of this thread, the OP has a solution for the CDR-220 but is unsure if it will work for the CDR-23. Please forgive my reading comprehension skills if I'm wrong. I'm old.
The beta kit works in Porsche with: Becker Traffic Pro, Mexico CD (7803, CC4325, CC4327, CD4337, CC4370), CR-22, CDR-22, CR-220, CDR-220. With an adapter, I can get it to work with CR-210*, CDR-210*, PCM1* with "AUX MENU" setting. 2 wires to tap into. That's it.
If only they were plug and play for the MOST systems
I guess you could always use that aux out to most amp unit.
Ive been whinging a fair bit throughout this thread about most haha. On the hunt for a dension now so I can shut up about it haha.
I added BT (to stream music and take/recieve phone calls) quite easily and cheaply on my PCM1 system.
1. 3.5-BKRCD from Discount Car stereo (gives you aux input) ~ $30
2. mpow aux to BT reciever with mic ~ $18
Took 10 mins to setup and everything looks acts factory. The BT streaming quality is great. Only thing I had to give up was the CD changer.
I have a PCM1 with nav that I'm shopping for a Bluetooth solution for. Does your setup allow controlling the Bluetooth playback (pause, skip, etc) through the PCM buttons, or is there a separate remote? I'm reading through the product page on your site and am not completely clear on how it works.
Thanks for posting! Our BTR-2 kit comes with a separate mic and control device that allows Calls, Play, Skip <, Skip >, etc. Most mount it next to the head unit. It can be seen on the web page that follows. More info here:
https://rennkit.com/product-info/blu...-retrofit-kit/
To update my prior post, I went back and looked through all the orders, we have 6 customers with PCM-1 that have bought the BTR-2 Kit. I found out that the CD Changer must remain in place.
