Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been researching - and thinking about buying - a 996. I love the looks, performance, modern convenience (working A/C) and it would be much more useful for actually driving and going places with my wife than my current toy, a 1968 bigblock corvette tons of fun, but is only good for short trips to car shows when the weather is perfect, not raining and not too hot. So naturally, my big fear is paying $20 - 25k for a car that develops fatal IMS bearing problems which would reduce the value to approximately zero. I haven't read as much about leaking RMS. I see this car advertised, and from the pictures it looks really nice. The seller discloses some issues which justifies his low low price... $13k. If his disclosure is accurate, what would it cost to fix? Does it seem more likely that the engine is well on its way to implosion and I should pass?

POST 2Original post

For costs to fix disclosed issues, contact a local indy. Better yet, have a PPI done to get better idea of what other issues may be lurking.

POST 3Original post

I think a car with that mileage needs to be looked at (by you) in person. Not for the mechanical stuff, which a PPI will cover better than you can, but to be able to tell whether you like it. Which year and model? Do you have pictures?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oops... just saw another thread discussing purchase of what looks a lot like the same car. sorry for the dup.

POST 5Original post

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-purchase.html was beginning to wonder about that

POST 6Original post

The car has not been cared for or maintained. That's pretty obvious or it would not have ANY faults. I would walk right now and forget about it.

POST 7Original post

Funny two guys posting about the same car, everyone wants a deal. Just get a well sorted car for a few more g's
