Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I predict a nice sticky tire on the clean race track surface and the front drive is unneeded.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Going rwd should I rebadge to S and take off the 4S?

POST 3Original post

I’d de-badge it rather than re-badge it. Or if you choose to re-badge it, go with “Porsche” or “911”.

POST 4Original post

Its still a C4S. I would debadge if you feel the need to do something.

POST 8Original post

I don't think "should" is the right word. I don't think you "should"... as in you aren't compelled to now that you have converted to RWD.

POST 10Original post

Yes, remove the 4. Just S. are you going to document the weight loss of removing the differential? Sounds like a good idea to me.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's been documented many time before. I like the idea of just the S, similar to the 993 S and 4S. Not sure how easy it will be to take of the lettering or if it will leave a mark so I may not do anything.

POST 13Original post

Couldn't you just cover up the 4 with some of that colored duct tape...just a thought.

POST 14Original post

Opinions aside, when you peel up the 4 it will leave residue. Even if you get the residue off the paint will need a quick polish to make the color blend. dont expect to just peel the 4. Buy the badging you want new. Peel the whole thing and fix paint, then stick on what YOUR heart desires. Do you feel like the car is faster? I felt like the viscous clutch was unpredictable. I drove a couple years without the front drive, and learned how to comfortably slide a rear engined car (coming from 944s and 986s). Once I was comfortable applying more pedal than the tires could handle I wanted more grip. I reinstalled the front drive. Now I notice the cars aggressive pull around 30-50mph in the mountains that would have otherwise been tire slip. It feels more stable applying power mid turn. Ive considered going back to RWD. If I did it would be after I sourced some GT3 uprights and brakes to correct the geometry. I predict a nice sticky tire on the clean race track surface and the front drive is unneeded. But for now Im digging the 4 in C4S.

POST 16Original post

Z911 You need to put more context around your current car and why its not working for you

POST 17Original post

Then you'll have to update the door sills. And if its like mine, you'll have to update the C4S center caps on the wheels. As a side note, my Cayenne GTS has a factory Cayenne S sticker under the hood. They all do apparently....

Who cares what the internet thinks. Do what YOU will like

Yeah who cares what anyone thinks? Especially a year and a half later?! I hope whatever the OP decided, he's happy with it. Or changed it if he wasn't, WITHOUT ASKING!

POST 20Original post

Did OP ever explain why he got rid of the Front differential? Front differential very robust and only reason they would crap out is if previous owners didn't service it with proper fluid. Another example of why service records are so important.

POST 21Original post

I thought about going 2WD until I realized that the rear transaxle in a C4S is an open one. Probably not a big deal but a buzzkill for me.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 18337363

It's a popular mod, typically for driving feel. I've not heard of anyone doing it because something broke, but it's presumably possible. I doubt that is the case with the OP though -- I'm sure the rebadging question was all about celebrating the 2wd conversion.

POST 23Original post

Porsche never made a wide body RWD only 996 so removing the front diff essentially gets you that!

POST 24Original post

I went RWD in my C4S in part because the front diff crapped out around 137k miles. Was cheaper to remove the front diff than to replace or fix it. (It's also fairly easy to reverse if I ever change my mind) As a bonus my avg MPG (as reported by the car) went up from 23.5 to 26mpg.
