Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Since the second part was installed 1-2 months ago I had no cruise control, which is natural since it needs a good break switch to allow the computer to engage.
Leading evidence: 'Install 1-2 months ago i had no cruise control' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install 1-2 months ago i had no cruise control' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. The plunger on the FAE unit needs to be pulled out completely to reset the ratchet.

Then let the brake pedal set the ratchet correctly as it is released.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Long story long many of the parts ordered never showed up, one did but didn't quite fit even though it looked close, one did fit but didn't work.
I have been battling a brake light switch issue in my 2002 C2 Cab 996.2. Mechanic has a wide network but parts that fit/work have been impossible to get for about 3 months.
Any tips/ideas? I am told it will probably be compatible with some years of Boxster as well, but likely not compatible with 4 wheel drive as there is a slight difference in the circuit.
Long story long many of the parts ordered never showed up, one did but didn't quite fit even though it looked close, one did fit but didn't work. Mechanics say both the failure and the bad replacements have become common on 996.
Any help would sorely be appreciated, need to get this fixed!
That's odd, my car needed a brake light switch just last month and it arrived in a day. 2002 C2 targa.
Is this your part number?

ECS has them in stock.
Update/Solved:
So on Friday the first of my two parts arrived. BeckArnley 201-1695 made in Italy.
I swung by and they installed it in about 3 minutes (they do this all the time, if you attempt this I'm sure it's 15-60 minutes, there are some good youtube videos on this particularly the one that shows you how to align and turn since the insertion is blind). I mentioned the thing that some of the parts are intended for a wider range of models with different pedal throws, and offered to push the break pedal down with a broomstick so they could install it that way (you really need two people for that). He said nah he knows about that and he could adjust it manually on the switch, which he did.
Since the second part was installed 1-2 months ago I had no cruise control, which is natural since it needs a good break switch to allow the computer to engage. I put the top down, turned up the radio to some Zep, and took it down the street. Cruise engaged straight away, no ABS lights or anything!! Did u-turn, tried again - all good. Break lights solid, no flicker. My happiness is unbounded.
I've done a few trips more on the weekend (fingers crossed) no engine lights at all, which I haven't seen in quite a while due to multiple issues.
The coda on this is that the replacement for the two replacements is still back ordered from the shop's source - no delivery in sight. (Now cancelled). I scored the Beck Arnley on Amazon for $27. The allegedly Porsche genuine was $30. So I asked the guys if they know Beck Arnley - he said yes they were big in the 80s for European parts just when he was starting out. But they disappeared later he hasn't seen the name in a long time. "Were they good parts?" "Yeah - back in those days everything worked!" He's a bit sour they have been dealing with a number of bad parts and delayed orders recently not just this ;-( It's probably not as bad as he makes out, but still there are issues. They saw everything mentioned here, the **** not quite fitting, wrong connector shape, or part fits perfectly but just flat out doesn't work properly. Such is life.
But I don't care. My car has been detailed recently, the paint looks great. An issue with the top cable was fixed last month as well as many other mechanicals. It feels like new - 200K miles here we come, baby!
Glad you got your "break" problem solved. For future reference when someone does a search on this forum, it would help if you would use
brake light switch
instead of "break" light switch.
I had the same issue as you with my replacement brake light switch -- no cruise. I ordered a genuine Porsche part, received it in 3 days. Cruise works again.
Here are the two switches side by side. The 'OE' part had the adjustable plunger and was meant for multiple vehicles. Lots of signs of poorer quality than the Porsche part.
The plunger on the FAE unit needs to be pulled out completely to reset the ratchet. Do this after install, while holding the brake pedal down. Then let the brake pedal set the ratchet correctly as it is released.
