My plastic rear window has been repaired but I'll definitely get a glass one when I have to replace my top.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my 2000 new to me 996 came with a new top. Its glass and Ive noticed its definitely smaller then others. This a option or typical of glass tops

POST 2Original post

I believe your model 996.1 all came with plastic window and 996.2 came with glass, looks right to me.

POST 3Original post

That's an aftermarket replacement top and the glass is smaller than the plastic by about 1/3 to fit the 996.1 fold geometry. The .2 models have a different design that fits larger glass (they are all glass). You got a nice top with your car. It's what I will get if I ever have to replace mine, but I'm in no hurry, unless we can swap.

Agree with DSC800! My plastic rear window has been repaired but I'll definitely get a glass one when I have to replace my top.

POST 5Original post

I just got my 996.1 cab back with a new [close to] factory spec top with huge plastic window compared to the [failed seal] aftermarket glass that was on prior. For a taller driver it makes all the difference in rear view! not certain but figure the 996.1 cab fold & stretch action was too much for the glass which it wasnt designed for.
