Suggestion
The reason is simple: the dealer cannot have their technician drive the customer's car 200 miles or two hours to reset the smog monitors while charging them $250 an hour after a repair is done.

Leave it outside (non-running) until after the ambient temp has cooled and the vent valve should close.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got a mis fire cylinder one code and replaced the coil packs and plugs and cleared to code. Now i need a smog ck and I can't get all 8 monitors to clear, evap-air & secondary air are not clearing. I've gone through the drive I found on the 993 forum at least 6 times a these same to show INC and 6 show OK I'm in Arizona and they only allow one monitor "not ready"
Could a Porsche dealer force them to clear? Or an independent Porsche shop?
any suggestions
thanks
Dan
Mine usually takes an overnight cool down. Drive to work, overnight cool down, drive to work. All monitors OK. Drive to work is 30 miles mixed highway/city.
Good luck.
Secondary air takes a few cold engine start cycles to clear. If all else fails, your dealer or an independent with a high end Porsche computer can force the code to reset.
I don't usually drive it much, but lately, for the last week I've been driving it 20-30 miles each day trying to get the these monitors to complete. I found this drive cycle on the 993 forum that's supposed to work but isn't so far a tough to find roads I can complete it on.
Does anyone know of a scan tool that can force these monitors to complete? I'd much rather spend to $ on a tool, than give it to the Porsche dealer!
thanks
Dan
No such scan tool after market. Only the Porsche factory tool can do this. The reason is simple: the dealer cannot have their technician drive the customer's car 200 miles or two hours to reset the smog monitors while charging them $250 an hour after a repair is done. So their computer can force the monitor to be ready and pass the smog check.
Thanks, I've got tell 9-19 to get the two monitors to finish before my dealer appointment!
Does anyone have an idea which part of the drive cycle clears Secondary Air sys and the evap sys?
Evap requires driving AND being parked.
The vent valve requires being parked, and the purge vale requires driving.
Parking outside in the heat can force vent valve to open.
Leave it outside (non-running) until after the ambient temp has cooled and the vent valve should close.
You may need multiple cycles to get the EVAP test to complete.
You need to follow this. Starting with a cold start in the morning is key to have the SAI kick in. The cats hold temp quite well during the day so if you try again after a few hours the SAI might not kick in. I had to do this recently. I thought I had to drive a certain amount of miles and time and no luck. I followed these directions next morning and everything activated. Also, you might want to have at least half tank of gas if not more. EVAP system is picky sometimes.
I think it is doable as I remember needing to stop at a light during the procedure a few times. I think they biggest and most important part is keeping the speed and rpms at the prescribed max. I'll be honest, it was not easy hopping on a highway / bypass road in my 911 and holding 55mph max as I got passed by a Corolla and an old Ford Tempo
It finally reset the Secondary Air system after 571 miles of trying to drive this drive cycle! My last drive before it reset was the 40-60 for 15 minute segment. I got lucky going up the road to mt lemon, tucson az near where I live, had no slow driver's ahead and was able to keep it at 41-45 for 15 minutes, a fun drive. Then set and idled for 5 min. then back down the mountain and home keeping it under 60,& 3000 checked it and couldn't believe my eyes! One one sensor not ready which is a PASS in AZ! Thanks everyone for the advice!
I've seen this drive cycle before but have never needed to run it. The one thing that I do is something I got from VCDS from the VW Vag-com. After warm-up, while driving, I'll hold RPM's between 2K & 3K for 2-3 minutes and repeat 2X. The VCDS has a function to set/test the monitors in the shop. This routine was repeated a few times across the tests. This along with the cool down overnight has always worked.
