Also installed the steel skid plate for protection.

I keep my skid plate installed while changing oil as well.

I wish I had run the UAOS drain back with the stock sump - I'd bet big money that it does more to resolve pressure drops than the deep sump does.

I really think the biggest bang for your buck is running the UAOS with the drain back and oil FULL....something pretty much everyone said you couldn't do...

I contemplated it for a while but after seeing data such as zbomb's it just didn't seem better enough to risk cracking my pan during street use considering I only track 2-3x a year.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is the 2 Quart deep sump kit too low for street use? The car will only be at the track maybe 10% of the time. Plan on driving it as much as I can off the track. I would add their skid plate as well.
Thanks
Joey
Mine has been pretty unscathed and I have only rubbed the skid plate on a couple occasions, but I don't drive it a lot on the road and am not very adventurous when I do. If I was using it like a real weekend car, I would not feel good about it. The skid plate also blows, when I put it on, it transmitted a funky resonance into the cabin - I resolved it with some isolation material I got from HD, I think the stuff's original use was plumbing gasketing. Then, I have to remove it for each oil change or it makes a mess. To top it off, the skid plate is very expensive for what it is.
And I do all that to run a deep sump and be less worried about destroying it during an off track excursion -
and I still have big oil pressure drops on track
. You can read all about them below and see a ton more data and also possibly a better upcoming solution that will not have the clearance issue inherent with the deep sump.

I installed the LN Engineering 2.5 qt. deep sump on my '14 981. Also installed the steel skid plate for protection. Both are excellent products. No issues what so ever installing either item. And changing oil without removing the skid plate is a piece of cake. The holes in the skid plate for both oil drain plugs is generous and never had any oil run/drip onto the inside or outside of the plate. So far, after 20K miles, I have never once hit anything with the skid plate and am very pleased with both products.
I also have the LN 2qt deep sump and LN skid plate on my DD-ish.
(DD 5-days per week Pre-COVID, 2 days per week starting in June 2021, back to 0 days per week starting yesterday.)
I've had no issues hitting anything with the skid plate...the Cup car front splitter is another matter.
I keep my skid plate installed while changing oil as well.
I added the Noico sound deadening material because of resonance and it works great.
Even though it's not rated for exterior use, the Noico material is still holding up fine many months and several thousand miles later.
I contemplated it for a while but after seeing data such as zbomb's it just didn't seem better enough to risk cracking my pan during street use considering I only track 2-3x a year. I live in the city where the roads are terrible and my car is roughly1.5" lower than stock. I have the oe skid plate and it has marks on it.
You certainly have to be careful when you drive the car around town and make sure you have a skid plate.
But no, never had a problem over the past 15 years or so with it. As a side note, my car was lowered about the same time I put on the deep sump. Just make sure if you valet park your car, take the valet around back of the car and point to the deep sump and explain to them that they need to be careful. Ferris Beullers Day Off unfortunately is etched in my mind.
I have deep sump on mine with no issues at all. But the roads here in Denmark are pretty good. I have driven in the US as well and I know you can have terrible roads over there 🙂
As others have said, you should be okay on the street. As ZBOMB has said, none of it is worth the money. The plate is complete trash, and I question if it would actually protect anything. It installs poorly and makes a ton of noise. I know they have since redesigned it, but those of us that paid big early have been stuck with trash that we had to bend to fit.
Additionally, we still see the oil pressure drops, so over $1K of parts to not really help anything. Cannot wait for
@Porschetech3
solution to be available. LN makes some good stuff, but every time I hit the track I am more convinced that everything I bought from them to help my oil pressure situation was a waste of money.
I really think the biggest bang for your buck is running the UAOS with the drain back and oil FULL....something pretty much everyone said you couldn't do... Until Skip proved them all wrong.
A very limited data set shows improvement with the higher level... I wish I had run the UAOS drain back with the stock sump - I'd bet big money that it does more to resolve pressure drops than the deep sump does. But - that is speculation on my part. If I wasn't going to Skips sump as soon as I could get my hands on it, I'd test the stock one.
If I haven't already said it - I hate the skid plate and cannot wait to not have it on my car.
Agree. I think I was the first one to just go full oil with the UAOS. I was at the point that I was either going to blow the motor, the AOS or all would be good. So far so good with the full oil. Go Team Skip.
You guys want to see a bad-*** deep sump. Look at this one.
My shop made it for me in 2007 a few years before LN's was available. Take a look at the clearance. It has a skid plate as well. I lowered the car at the same time when I put on Bilstein PSS9s using GT3 specs. Never had a problem with it driving around the street or track.
Quite frankly, I love the look of it. Industrial strength and it still looks brand new. Everyone needs a deep sump and more oil. What else are you going to hang out the back.
