Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any other 996ers have a horn that intermittently likes to honk? I narrowed it down to happening when I am applying the brakes. It seems that the cover of the airbag is too close to the frame of the wheel and the pressure of braking is just enough to slightly honk. I hate to admit, but I temporarily slid a small soft home made shim in the groove between the wheel frame and airbag cover and it stopped. Looking for a permanent solution. Also, Airbag light comes on quite frequently but it had been that way since bought the care over two years ago. Cruise control has never worked either. Could any of these be related? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

There is a whole thread on replacing the steering wheel horn frame. You have to remove the screws on the back side of the steering wheel. They are torx screws. Then everything will be exposed. The rubber grommets on the horn frame age out. I replaced mine about 2 years ago and it fixed the problem. Order a new horn frame first. #3 or #27 here depending on earlier 4 spoke steering wheel or later 3 spoke wheel http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=403-05
