Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello porsche ppl . ok ls it possible to mess up the castor while fitting new dampers ie coilovers. one of my front wheels . namely the 1st one l swapped is roughly and Inch further back than the opposite wheel. l can get 3 fingers I front of the wheel on left and 4 opposite. side. how do l adjust. castor. l have mo ldea. l tried rotation on the d / side . l rotated it 360 degrees. l believe they only go on one way. ? pls feel free to enlighten me. thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

IIRCC castor for the front, is non adjustable. If your numbers are way out, I'd suspect something in the suspension system is worn, loose or damaged.

POST 3Original post

Sounds like the bolt for the fork through the lower control arm bushing is not in correctly. Do u have factory arms? The gt3 lowers have a stotted hole and after market bushings sometimes have several positions. The three bolts at the top r used to set camber, if that is off it can set the wheel in the well wrong. U may just need an alignment.

POST 4Original post

^^this^^. You may also have a bent control arm (tuning fork, running diagonal to the front). Or bumper cover may be off too. A good alignment will tell the tale.

POST 5Original post

Are the top shock mount installed with the arrow forward and toward the outside of the car?

This is exactly right. The caster on a 996 is not adjustable, so if your's is out it's because something is wrong. Get a geo done to find out what it is currently as it could be that your bodywork is the problem rather than the postion of your wheels.
