Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know what the purpose of the foam pad at the bottom of the airbox is for? Mine has completely disintegrated and a replacement part is not available. BTW it's a 2002 Carrera Thanks, James

POST 2Original post

Sound deadening? Not sure because my air box has no foam pad. In fact, since the air box snorkle loves to drain rain water into the air box, when I change the air filter I make sure the drain hole in the bottom of the air box is clear of debris. And since I live in sunny Florida where we get a deluge of rain, I drilled 2 extra holes in the bottom of the air box to make sure it would drain. That was about 11 years ago. No problems since.

POST 4Original post

Mine was a crumbling mess and so I just cleaned the rest out. No issues.

Its sone type of pre filter. Mine was dissolved as well. The dealer said the air box has been updated several times since the car was manufactured and they no longer exist. Just throw the foam away. A new air box is about $190 if you want to update it.

POST 6Original post

Just had my filter box out when I changed the motor mounts, and didn't see any foam or remnants of foam on 2000 C2, so it seems like it was gone by 2000 or was started sometime after 2000. Was the crumbling foam on the side where it would be caught by the air filter?
