This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I'm new here. The cloth top on my 1999 996 911 is not sealing on the passenger's side. I first noticed this last week, and I don't want to do damage attempting a repair. I am mechanically adept, however, I am by no means a convertible top or upholstery guy. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. V iew 1 View 2 View 3

POST 2Original post

I had that happen. There is a cable that runs from the front of the roof to the back. The one end is held on with a rivet and that tends to break. If you do a search on the site there should be instructions somewhere.

POST 3Original post

I just did this repair. On the front piece of the folding mechanism, pull the rubber seal out. Then remove three small screws plus a larger one on the front to detach the rail the seal is attached to. You can now remove the four screwa that hold the top fabric in place and by pulling it away reveal the end of the wire and the mount. Drill out the old rivet from the mount and install using a new rivet (5/32 x 1/2 works well).

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you very much, I'll be attempting this later today.

I cannot find the wire, somewhere I've gone wrong. Looking at the pictures, can I get remedial help?

POST 6Original post

I see now that my write-up could be a bit misleading, I was referring to the front portion of the folding mechanism, ie the part the cable is attached to. The piece just aft of the front corner.
