Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My only issue was the A/C since these cars came with R32 gas & you cant find much around.
Leading evidence: 'a/c since these cars came' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So after daily driving my 996 as my one and only car I realized I was putting too many miles on it, so I bought a cheap little fun gas saver to do the dirty work like take me to work etc. It is a 1990 Honda crx not to sure how I feel about this just yet as I just bought the car for 1 grand today lol
None of my Porsches have been daily drivers, so I understand.
I do drive them often in good weather, but I never drive them when it would not truly be fun to do so.
I would but this is such a comfortable car to drive!
Going to end up putting around 10-12k a year on the 996. The best part, at least mine, is that it's not going to be collectable any time soon, it's not going to go up or down in value that much, and it's the perfect Porsche to put a ton of miles on and not feel guilty that you're hurting resale or putting a vintage car at risk.
I bought a CRX too a couple years ago and still have it. I regretted selling my last one quite a few years ago and have had a few before that. This time I bought it for different reasons. 88 HF model getting ~50mpg using regular gas. It feels special driving one of the lowest hp cars on the road(65hp) but still manages to go since it's only 1800lbs.
The nimble go kart handling is what rewards me with the fun factor though from the lightweight.
Road and Track magazine had a nice front page pic of it beating a Ferrari 308 back in 1989 when Jackson Racing came out with a SC for it.
Two years ago I decided I needed a cube on wheels when I had a large box to bring to UPS and couldn't fit it in my DD 996. I bought a New Scion XB for less than the cost of a new engine for the 996. It is surprisingly fun to drive and very versatile.
You got a '90 model which at least has crash beams in the doors. The '88 didn't hence the reason why they are lighter. FWIW, the HF model also doesn't have the standard front/rear 5mph crash bumper beams either.
I am sure you have already crunched the numbers: price of no-frills DD, gas, insurance and maintenance as needed VS. keeping all that $$$ as you continue driving your 996, full of pride and joy as you do so 😉
I had a black CRX Si; 1989. Great car: quick, efficient, and great looks. Small, yet you can fit a steamer trunk in the back (try it: true story).
Q: What prompted me to leave it behind?
A: My first Porsche, an '84 928 (more or less Nordic Gold).
But for the Porsche, I'd have driven it until it fell to pieces.
CRX's are great little cars, I have had two... Once they are free of major issues, they are very reliable and parts are cheap... My only issue was the A/C since these cars came with R32 gas & you cant find much around.
Yeah, well we can have snow in 5 out of 12 months here.
Even in good weather I hesitated to take the car to my construction jobsites with their dirt roads (sometimes no road), paint overspray, massive mud mess, etc. etc.
So there were lots of times when DD in a Porsche made no sense at all much less being any fun.
Regular street/freeway commuting in Seattle (or Vancouver) would be a different story weatherwise. Just need to invest in good rain tires.
I was driving my 996 Turbo daily and decided I wanted a daily driver that I didn't care for. My 996 is just too special to me to drive in inclement weather park close to cars and generally not care for it. In the end I leased a Jetta Sport. Its a nice little car, its fast for what it is and has more amenities than my TT.
My first car was a '83 Accord. I'd love to have another one for the hell of it, but would still daily my 911. My ex (aka Satan) had an '89 CRX. It died one day after doing maybe 150k miles. I looked at the cam through the oil filler hole and had her crank the starter. The cam didn't turn. When I told her what a broken timing belt meant, she decided to abandon it in a parking lot. I called and donated it to a charity. Too bad they couldn't have taken her with the car!
Congrats! My first car was a 1987 CRX Si in Red with black cloth. I bought it new and still wish I had it. I would appreciate it more today than I did back then! As much as I liked it, your generation CRX which came out in 1988 is much better. More modern HVAC controls and console compared to mine. Nice find and have fun with it!
How do you go from driving a Porsche one day & then driving a Prius, CRX, etc... another day? How do you Explain than to your GF or your co-workers, Lol! But, i guess it's just a 996 not like it's a Real Porsche!
