Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
all seriousness aside, its probably a kick down switch
Leading evidence: 'kick down switch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'kick down switch' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace shifting times' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
It provides a ground to the TCU which then changes shifting times for faster acceleration.

From 5CHN3LL's post, maybe it's something used on the automatic cars.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's the ejector seat button to jettison your passenger so you gain top acceleration. LOL...I have no idea but when you find out I'd like to know as well.
From Essential Companion:
The kick-down switch detects when the accelerator pedal is floored past the full-throttle position.
It provides a ground to the TCU which then changes shifting times for faster acceleration.
The transmission shifts down immediately, depending on engine speed, and shifts up again
only when the higest permissible engine speed is reached.
Interestingly, The Essential Companion warns against ever opening the accelerator pedal box, suggesting that the entire unit should be replaced if a component fails.
Top Tip tip: mash that sucker all the way to the mat if you want your car to haul the most *** possible.
There were no electronics connected to the pedal box in my '99. IIRC, it's just a dead piece of plastic.

Thanks for the replies!
My track car was converted to a manual transmission so it was not obvious to me the function of the switch. Kick down switch does make sense now.
Not sure about your car, but there is indeed a kick down button, associated with PDK. I have a 981 Cayman S with PDK. And (before I knew about the button) I would jam it coming out of a turn, only to have the car shift down a gear (or two) without warning - and it would frequently kick out the rear end, only to be caught by traction control...all very unsettling. And it would even do it in manual (paddle shift mode), as if to say, "You are too stupid to know when to shift yourself!! (in a German accent, of course). And traction control would catch you in a slide....even if you turn it off!! If you're drifting the rear end with PSM off, no problem - unless the front starts to drift as well.... then all bets are off...the German voice says, "Stupid American - you're going to kill us all...!!!" And PSM drops in uninvited.
More than you wanted to know..... Aren't you glad you don't have a new Porsche?!?!?!
Thankfully, the folks in this forum with automatic transmissions have Tips, not PDK - so even when the kick-down mode is active, there's still time to whip up and enjoy a sandwich before the transmission has time to kick down two gears and toss the rear end out.
Tip owners, don't get cranky...I'm just kidding.
