Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Set .html' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set .html' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Could you use your 3.6 (bored to 4.0) short block and install a complete 3.8 top end?

But if by "bolt on" you mean that it is a direct swap for the factory 3.6 intake, the answer is NO.The 3.8 uses a different style AOS system, so the many connections and pipes are different. Can it be modified to fit?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys my engine is getting rebuilt to a LN 4.0L right now, wondering if I can upgrade (BOLT ON) my INTAKE MANIFOLD to the 997S 3.8L Style?
https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-ma...ifold-set.html
That simple sounding question is a lot more complicated than you realize.
First answer is that the m97.01 3.8 is an descendant of the m96/03 3.6, so yes, it will physically "bolt on". (uses the same bolt pattern and gasket).
But if by "bolt on" you mean that it is a direct swap for the factory 3.6 intake, the answer is NO.The 3.8 uses a different style AOS system, so the many connections and pipes are different. Can it be modified to fit? Sure...
To delve deeper ::The 3.8 m97/01 engine has a different intake ( has more volume, larger runners), has different heads (larger ports), different cams (more lift and duration) different headers ( larger tubes ). All these components work in combination to produce the power and torque curve desired.
Could you use your 3.6 (bored to 4.0) short block and install a complete 3.8 top end? Yes, this is what the X51 kit does, improved intake, heads, cams, headers.
To install only the 3.8 intake on a 3.6 (bored to 4.0) you have a 50/50 chance of helping or hurting the power/torque at different RPM's. (it's all about the total combination)
My guess would be that installing the 3.8 intake on your 3.6 (bored to 4.0) would slightly decrease lower RPM power/torque while increasing higher top end power/torque (more than the loss at lower RPM). Give it a shot and let us know !!
