Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have the process for replacing the pivot pin (Dowel Pin #996-010-117-53) on a 2001 996 non tubro. This is the pin which the crank /IMS chain tensioner arm swings on. I assumed it is pressed in but what is the best method to remove? Should it be done like removing guides in a head by machining off the step and pressing out in the direction it was installed?

POST 3Original post

The question is - why would you want to remove it? why why why?

POST 4Original post

The pivot pin for the ims tensioner paddle should not be removed. If it has come loose, you have to have it knurled and reinstall it with high temp bearing mount.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you look at the image closely there is a wear pattern. The center of the pin is 0.010" larger diameter than the inside and outer end. The old arm had excessive play rocking side to side on the pin as does the new arm (is less on the new one). I found the pins to be readily available. The current pin is tight in the carrier . Is this wear acceptable and just leave it as it is

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ordered the pin since it was only $10. The new pin has the same taper as the old one 0.010" smaller on the out and inside diameter.
