Don't assume the coils aren't bad - I did and it cost me almost 3 months of checking a myriad of other things (and even fixing a few)...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have recommendation for a good/honest shop in Baltimore? I had to bail out very near I-695 and I-70 west of the city. I'm considering towing it home, but <shrug> am not opposed to getting a professional diagnosis.
For those that would appreciate the story or have an idea what is going on ... here's what happened:
It seems like 100 mile drives back from the airport and not something I should be doing. Last time I had just 450 miles on my 2000 ME and on the drive home it presented a coolant light, a surprise milkshake. That turned out to be not a big deal! Now im up to about 1400 miles (166800 total) and made another try at the airport run.
Tonight, when I pulled out onto the highway next to the airport, I felt a vibration/shudder. Like I ran over a rough patch of road. Then another about 2 minutes later. Hmmmm.... this time it seemed like i felt a little deceleration as well. Nah - im just imagining things.... right? I'm watching gauges and listening intently. Temp normal, Oil pressure at 3 seems a little lower than normal. I stop for an hour, but then back on the road. About 20 total miles into the drive i accelerated to pass and felt same thing - this time accompanied by the dreaded flashing check engine light. Light went off after about 10 seconds, but im not taking any chances and exit highway as soon as I could. As I have about 2 miles to the exit - oil pressure dropping noticeably now - down to 1 while coasting. flashing check engine comes on, but only stays on for 3 seconds. As I get off the highway, there appears a massive Ford dealership. I ditch the car there and Uber the rest of the way home. Oil level was good on the dip and it wasn't losing it's **** under the car.
Are you for real? This is not some mystery mythical car that fell from heaven and has no earthly presence...my God! You explained what happened like "100 miles drives back from the airport...not something I should be doing"...450 miles on my 2000 ME and it
presented a coolant light
, a surprise milkshake"...what? What? What? Oil pressure dropped? Flashing check engine light come one? For three seconds? The "dreaded flashing check engine light" but "I exit because I'm not taking any chances"? Seriously, you need to sell your car and never own another one.
Never never own another car, of any make or model.
Could just be a misfire(s)... I can understand why you're a little gun shy after your last experience, but if the engine (head(s)) was fixed properly you shouldn't have any more problems with it/them. I had a similar situation that turned out to be coils (it would do the same thing you're describing after about 10-15mi. every time I drove/tested it (until I changed the coils)... FWIW, I'm not sure I'd let the Ford dealership diagnose it... If the problem is what I suspect, you'll be able to drive the car without problems until it fully heats up (10 miles or so). Good Luck
Sounds like you left it at Koons Ford on Security Blvd. On that side of the beltway, I'd take it to Ralphs (
https://ralphsautoservice.net
- owning mills ) or SSI Auto (on the top side of the beltway
https://ssi-auto-motorsports.business.site
) Both are good shops in the area.
Sorry for my rant above. Let the car cool then open the expansion tank cap and look inside. Open the oil filler cap and inspect it carefully. Is the expansion tank at the correct level? Even a Ford dealer will be able to plug in an OBDII reader and inspect the codes. If you get some codes let us know. With the drop in oil pressure, I suspect something bad happened. Good luck!
@Todd B
Thanks much Todd! Exactly @ Koons and exactly what I needed. Koons refused to touch it, which is fine by me.

DBJoe996: <shrug> Sorry for triggering you. I;ve only had 2 problems with the car - both presented while coming back from the airport. The last time, I had low coolant and milkshake, located a leaky hose, but was still worried. A shop local to me said the milkshake was from previous head work, found a second coolant leak I missed and said it was looking good. They flushed it out a few times and I flushed it out a few times on my own after that - no more milkshake! While its true I am a complete noob when it comes to figuring this stuff out, I didnt have any tools with me and was 90 miles from home, it was raining, 40 degrees and almost midnight. I have an OBD-II reader, but don't carry it with me wherever I go. I think I'm ok with my choice to abandon it temporarily. I didn't think I'd have to turn in my man card for it, but perhaps....
I thought it was odd that the light came on flashing and then immediately went off. Like EMERGENCY! and then not emergency. Also thought it was also odd about the short bursty vibrations that were happening prior to. Once the oil pressure dropped, I figured it was better to stop.
The oil pressure directly follows rpm's. When rpm's drop so does oil pressure... Don't assume the coils aren't bad - I did and it cost me almost 3 months of checking a myriad of other things (and even fixing a few)...
Thanks @dporto! I didn't see your message earlier! I didn;t think of a coil problem at all - but that sounds like something I hope it is. Limping it off the highway, I was still in a high gear and so definitely getting low on the tach - but the drop wasn't something that Ive seen before <shrug>
Had it dropped at SSI as Koons definitely didn't want any part of it
I hope to hear back today from them and evaluate next steps. Thanks again!
I just saw this thread. I have no experience with SSI, but I can vouch for Ralph's Auto. I've taken multiple Porsches there for years, and know many others who have also. They are definitely honest and do good work.
