I must of measured 4 times, used a block of wood to steady the height, double and triple checked, and still got a slightly different number each time.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ordered discs for my C4S. The suppliers database said they fit my car. I put in 2002 996 C4S. I order based on the supplier database acknowledging they fit my car. Well they send me 318mm discs where I needed 330mm. I didn't know until I went to put on. Anyhow I ask for a refund and for them to pay the shipping since I relied on their database. Denied. Secondly, I bought on Cyber Monday and got a 20% discount. When reordering the 330mm today, they wont give me the discount. There response is they would fit a C4S but with 318mm rotors and Min TH DiscsMax Diameter drums 26mm. They do disclose that to the side now that I look for it. I just saw the list of cars they fit and 2002 996 C4S is on the list. I looked no further. Did any 996 C4S's come from the factory with 318mm? Am I wrong here? Maybe I am.

POST 2Original post

What was denied? Returning the parts or the vendor paying for shipping? Typically you eat the shipping to return parts. So return the rotors and by from somewhere else. I've had good luck with FCP Euro and Brake Performance (brakeperformance.com). The latter has a life time warranty on pads and rotors.

POST 3Original post

Customer service should be the most important aspect, so if its wrong, its wrong, they should accept it back and also give you the 20% discount on the correct items. Maybe a compromise is you pay for return shipping, assuming its not too expensive.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My beef is that they should never had said they fit a 4S and now I need to ship back myself and pay whatever, and I am loosing about $50 due to the cyber Monday discount I am not getting. Will I get the sales tax I paid back too. Did any 4S's come from the factory with 318mm discs? Yes, I always pay shipping when I return something but this case seems different.

I tend to agree with you.

POST 6Original post

Technically the vendor catalog is not wrong. When I bought pads and rotors for my car the catalogs at multiple sites listed two different sizes. I had to measure the diameter of the front rotors (twice) to make sure I ordered the correct size. While ordering everything online has its upside there certainly is a downside when it comes to returning parts. If Argeo decides to order from Brake Performance I'd get the rotors, but not the pads. I don't know who makes the pads for them but they are super dusty. I should've bought Akebenos (which is what I installed on the rear).

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, now I am getting somewhere. I told them fine but I will likely shop else where going forward. They just sent me a return label. Still lost $40 but in the big picture, of well.

POST 8Original post

BTW, I am not defending the vendor. I think they could easily comp the return shipping, especially if you planned to order the 330mm rotors. Just the whole online thing is always better.

POST 9Original post

^^^ Right or wrong, once you have the parts they hold all the leverage... Bummer, but as you've learned it's time to suck it up and move on. I certainly wouldn't buy from them again - it's really the only power you have at this point. I only stick with companies that do the right thing. Good Luck

POST 10Original post

Can't type today either. I meant to say the online world is not always better. One time we bought a microwave at Home Depot, on sale. 3 days later if failed. I returned it at the Returns counter (mistake #1) and got another one to exchange. They charged me the non-sale price and could not understand why I was so irate. Stupidity at its finest. Okay., back on topic. Make sure you have the correct pads too.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Again, I guess the question for the guys in the know, did the 4S ever come from the factory with 318mm? If it did, shame on me. I didn't even now the 4S had 330mm not 318mm until someone here posted the other day. Why would I know? I know they have turbo brakes but no idea what the size is.As a customer, I rely on the expertise of the supplier. If it says it fits, I will go with it. If they were not on cars coming out of the factory that way, it should say "doesn't fit" period to avoid situations like this. Could a mechanic or a strong DIY person make them work (or even want to make them work), yes. A simpleton like myself and most others, would run into this situation. Just my opinion. Thanks for chiming in.

POST 12Original post

They listed both sizes for a C2 as well. Try measuring the diameter of the rotor on the car with a tape measure. The difference between 318mm and 330mm is not much. I must of measured 4 times, used a block of wood to steady the height, double and triple checked, and still got a slightly different number each time. I bet most parts vendors use the same parts catalog software. Couple that with Porsche's lack of parts control (they make mods and changes all the time within the same model car) and we end up with less than accurate information.

POST 13Original post

did a little checking - - the C4 used 318mm rotors https://www.total911.com/datafile/911-carrera-4-5/ as did the MK1 Carrera 4 https://www.total911.com/datafile/911-carrera-4-6/ I'm going to assume the vendors software might be at fault here

I have to agree with you. The whole purpose for that checkbox on fit is what separates the good from the bad. The burden is on the application that says Yea or Nay. If any little things doesnt match, it shouldnt say that it fits. They should update their system to require you to input what size rotors you have.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 17114060

When I look up rotors for the 2002 Porsche Carrera, Porsche parts lists different rotors for the C4S compared to the Carrera. But it didn't specific exact dimensions. However, if you go to Brembo, they provide this document for the Porsche 996 C4S rotors... based on this document. 330mm is the right fit. (see attached)

POST 17Original post

The company should pay for the return shipping and refund the amount paid. They are providing the wrong part for the model selected in their ordering system. The screenshot below has the wrong info.

330mm is the correct rotor size for a 996 C4S. Contact our customer service team and we'll be happy to get you the correct parts as quickly as possible.
