This started happening the day after I had an oil change so at first I thought maybe it had to do with something they did but now im not sure.

Same thing happens, and when the window drops and the light comes on I can't hit the button again to "unlock" but I can use the door handle to unlock.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2003 996 C4S passenger side window recently started automatically dropping (similar to when you open the door), while driving which causes the dome light to come on. I've noticed it happens especially if I hit a bump. Most times if I open the door and close it it will go off but then happen again quite often. This started happening the day after I had an oil change so at first I thought maybe it had to do with something they did but now im not sure. Is it most likely a microswitch I have to replace, or are there other areas I can investigate first?

POST 2Original post

There are several microswitches in the door. If the dome light comes on and the window drops it sounds like one that is activated by inside and/or outside door handle. There is a great write up somewhere in this forum derailing all the difference switches. If i can find it ill post it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another odd thing is while it does happen when I hit a bump, it can also happen as soon as I lock the door and the car is already off. Ill close door, lock it and see the window slightly drop.

POST 5Original post

If you turn on the door locks (button on horseshoe) while driving i wonder if you would still have the problem, not that thats a real solution

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've tried that. Same thing happens, and when the window drops and the light comes on I can't hit the button again to "unlock" but I can use the door handle to unlock.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for posting. Makes me think it's a switch for sure, but not really sure which one.

POST 8Original post

Might be one or both door handle sensors as well as the lock sensor based on your description.
