Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at a 2004 Targa and I noticed that the exhaust tips are quads like an S Would these have been standard on Targas or does this one likely have an optional motor. I think in 2002 the base 3.6 was 320 HP and there was a step-up to 345. Any thoughts? Also, this is a 45,000 mile car...no clutch or bearing updates for $30,000...opinions

POST 2Original post

very easy to swap quad tips to any 996 (I did so on my 02 C2 months ago) so a car having one does not necessarily equate to an upgraded motor

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks...just hoping for a find.

POST 4Original post

Targa are rare cars to find, some have reported issues with the mechanisms. However it is an unique car style for sure, so probably why the selling price is higher.

POST 5Original post

As noted above, the S series 996 cars share an engine with the standard C4 and C2. My C4S didn't come from the factory with quad exhaust tips.

POST 7Original post

Tips on my '02 Targa... I think they are stock but not sure. Hope this helps

POST 8Original post

I have had my Targa for 8 years this summer and have had no issues with the car mechanicals including the sliding roof. I searched for 1 year for a Targa before finding the "one". The previous owner installed the exhaust tips which were an option. The great thing about the Targa, it is usually the only 996 Targa at local Porsche gatherings! John '03 Targa
