Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
Thought it was the cold weather, but now I think it's the fresh gas from the busiest station in town.

Suggestion
I don't plan on selling this anytime soon (and probalby only would to get another), so I'll fix whatever I have to to keep it running perfect.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Back when 996's were first talked about I was
Totally sold on the idea.
To a Florida Guy I was in hopes the liquid cooling
Would give the big A/C performance I desired.
The aerodynamics wowed me and it looked Sebring/Daytona worthy. Incorporating synthetic
materials to lighten things and make less prone to rust was a plus.
I couldn't afford a new one, and waited till 2005
To buy a 2001 which had only 7,000 miles
The search was also made difficult because I wanted a car with few options.
I have never been disappointed in any way
By my 996
With the introduction of the 997 and 991 you
May think I would have new model envy ?
Not so , I prefer my 996 over the newer ones and
Older ones
My 996 is a basic out of the box stock model
that absolutely screams .
I love this car
Zanzibar, sorry the word wrap made me haiku a small part of my story.
But yes "absolutely screams". A couple weeks ago, I'd swear I picked up an extra boost of hp. Thought it was the cold weather, but now I think it's the fresh gas from the busiest station in town.
Everyone I have ever taken for a ride in mine asks the same question. "Is it a turbo"?.... I answer, "I don't need a turbo for American roads". Then I brake hard and that action really opens their eyes some more. Try taking yours over 100mph in 3rd gear. That says enough for our 996 cars.
Hurdi: Absolutely right! Car scares me in a good way! I have owned muscles cars and a Sunbeam Tiger, but my 2005 996 C4S is the most exciting car ever. Not sure how Porsche does it but they do it right.
I've had my '02 996 for two years now. Did my homework and looked for 6 months to find the right car. It had more miles than I initially wanted (JUST turned 100k when I bought it) but it had all records from new and the PO had just put a LOT of money into consumables (WP, Clutch, Tires, Brakes, Rotors, IMS, etc) right before I bought it, but didn't really come close to recouping it in the sale price. Since purchase I've replaced the coil packs, AOS and drivers door switch. That's it, and I've now put 42,000 miles on the clock.
This is my daily driver, and I still can't drive it without a smile on my face. It fits me like a glove and pushes all the right buttons. Complaints? I still don't like the headlights, the dashboard design is my least favorite of the 911's, and I think it's a little two quiet exhaust wise. And none of those matter to me anymore. I just love the car. (Gas mileage, which I hadn't really considered in my evaluations, has been a very pleasant surprise. 21mpg all the time around time -sometimes better. 27 on the hwy, but last year I got 29 on a trip to Pennsylvania.)
And I'm mentally at peace if the worst should happen and I need a new engine. I don't plan on selling this anytime soon (and probalby only would to get another), so I'll fix whatever I have to to keep it running perfect.
Last month I bit the bullet and got the front hood and bumper repainted. Ended up getting the rear one done too as it had some deep parking lot scratches. At first I thought I was being too ****, but the results speak for themselves. Worth every penny.
If you keep pushing, you'll find that you're just about bouncing off the rev limiter @150 in 5th. Then comes the real test of manhood: do you take a hand off the wheel and grab 6th?
I haven't been able to muster the nerve to grab sixth and take it up to drag-limited top speed...it's stunning how much faster 150 feels than 120-130. I'm sure it's like anything else - you have to recalibrate to process stuff at high speed. I remember my first lap or two at AX in instructor's car...I couldn't wrap my head around how fast things seemed to happen, but after a few events, it seems natural...
And as far as looks go - I still turn and look back at the 996 when I'm in the parking lot, and when parked somewhere high-brow - like the Balboa Bay club, where it wound up between a very nice Bentley and a Mercedes S600 worth more than my first house, it does more than hold its own. With the exception of the outrageous exotics, I believe my 996 is one of the best-looking cars on the road.
Congrats on getting the car you wanted. Finding the right car is one of the best feelings...when you add up what PO poured into the car and how much it would have cost you to build the car on your own, it makes it a lot easier to bear the thought of some potentially expensive repair.
