While the engine is idling and you have one ear tuned to the sound of the engine check tire pressures to make sure they are ok.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

although it's -3 today in the DC metro area, spring is around the corner. I got my 4S cab exactly a year ago next week. It's been parked for winter, covered in my garage for about 3 months. Anything I should know about starting it up for the first time? It's been sitting with a battery tender on. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Check fluids, tire pressures, floor for any leaks. Tires may have flat spots, not to worry they will smooth out with a couple of heat cycles.

POST 3Original post

adcampo: I was told it is a good thing to pull the fuel pump fuse and crank over for approx. 10 seconds to circulate the oil prior to actually starting. It was from someone on these forums who displays significant knowledge. I'll do the same in a month or so as my 2005 996 C4S has been sitting as well and it's cold in NE, too!

POST 4Original post

same drill you've done for your other cars in the past

POST 5Original post

I realize this falls into the "ridiculously ****" category, but I removed the airbox and manually rotated the crank (in the direction of operational rotation) a few times after it sat for a few months over summer.

POST 6Original post

Assuming you put the car away with no issues, vital fluids levels were all good, etc., just look under the car for any signs of leaks and if none then fire the engine up and let it idle. Be on high alert for any issues, warning lights, etc. just in case but if the engine sounds ok and behaves normally just let it idle. While the engine is idling and you have one ear tuned to the sound of the engine check tire pressures to make sure they are ok. Remember the temperature difference between where the car is parked and the outside. If the car sits outside the tire pressures can go too low in the colder temperature. Ideally then you should take the car out and give it a nice drive to get everything up to temperature. Do not wander too far afield. Be sure you have a good cell phone with you. Since the car has sat unused for a few months you kind of want time to regain confidence in the vehicle, so treat this first drive post storage like this was a used car you were seriously thinking of buying. Give the car a reasonably thorough shakd down drive. It would be nice if you could drive the car enough to make some room in the fuel tank for some fresh gasoline. After the drive back home be sure there are no spots on the pavement under the car before you park the car then the next time you are at the car check underneath for any signs of a fluid leak.
