I doubt it's just clearing a code .The timing sequence is probably off and needs to be adjusted .It's not hard but requires at least Durametric and a shop manual .
Leading evidence: 'Adjust .it's not hard' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'trip' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust .it's not hard' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The battery went flat on it, as it hadn't been used for a while so after eventually getting the front hood open a friend went to jump start it for me, and to my shock put the terminals on the wrong way!!!!!

I have had to adjust the hood as when I was trying to use it electrically once everything was put back together it wouldn't move, so I continually adjusted it with the Alan key until all the moving parts opened & closed fully & what I thought properly, but it might need a fine tweak to put lights out or a fault is now stored because of everything I've done!

Suspected cause
However, since the OP is unlikely to purchase Durametric given that he is selling the car, in the end it is probably a trip to the dealer or an indy to clear it.

Is a quick reset thing at a Porsche specialist/dealer.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Suggestion
According to the shop manual and a personal experience when you use the allen key on the clamshell there is a good chance that the synchronization is lost .In my case the top wouldn't move and the light was on .To check this out -Durametric -dealer or indy with autologic is needed .

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Newbie member here. I have a 996 1999 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. The battery went flat on it, as it hadn't been used for a while so after eventually getting the front hood open a friend went to jump start it for me, and to my shock put the terminals on the wrong way!!!!! Much to my surprise after a lot of messing around everything was fine with a new battery fitted, but I was told before we did that, that a fuse could've blown at the back, below the canvas hood, and to get to this I had to manually put the hood up. Again after quite a bit of messing around I managed to do this with the Alan key provided, to find the fuses were ok. Not sure what they did anyway!!!! That's when we thought, sod it, let's put a new battery on and see if all is ok, which surprisingly it was. Car started fine & instrument cluster ok, as also got told tau at could've been an issue. Anyway, After putting the hood back down, then starting up the car, with a few tweaks I've got the hood working fine again, but I have 2 red warning lights on the instrument panel now. One on the left what looks to be showing the electric spoiler, and the other on the right showing the electric hood. These weren't on before when the old battery was good enough to start the car. Any ideas please? Is a quick reset thing at a Porsche specialist/dealer. Thanks in advance. Dean.
Not sure I understand your issue. Is the cabriolet top working normally? Will it go up (and down) when holding down the dashboard button?
Double check that the engine lid is closed.
Re: the hood warning light, mine stays on too long sometimes, but fixes itself after a trip or two. Front hood or back, same deal. Not sure if that's standard behavior, but that's what mine does, doesn't bother me.
Hi,
Yes the roof works fine now, up, down & locking into place, but the red warning stays on. I need them out as I want to sell it in the next few weeks & it doesn't look good with red warning lights on. Think a trip to a Porsche specialist could be required which I was trying to avoid!
I'll check rear hood is closed properly today & maybe take it for a run out which may fix the roof light.
If the roof mechanism is working fine, you just may need to clear the error codes. A durametric can do it, or you can have it done at a shop (Porsche dealer or indy mechanic). Shouldn't be too expensive if clearing the codes is all that's required.
Suggestion - stop by a local Autozone or some auto parts store and have them plug in an OBDII reader. More than likely it will pick up the error codes and then you can erase them. Free. Or, buy one for $40 and do it yourself before you spring for Durametric at $300 or a trip to the dealer. Plus, if you buy one you can use it on your other cars. My OBDII reader is an essential part of my toolbox.
Worth a try, I guess. But it's very unlikely that you will be able to access the convertible top control unit with an OBDII reader.
The OBDII focuses on emissions diagnostics.
According to the shop manual and a personal experience when you use the allen key on the clamshell there is a good chance that the synchronization is lost .In my case the top wouldn't move and the light was on .To check this out -Durametric -dealer or indy with autologic is needed .
I agree, but it would be worth a shot since it would cost nothing. However, since the OP is unlikely to purchase Durametric given that he is selling the car, in the end it is probably a trip to the dealer or an indy to clear it. I go back and forth with the OBDII reader and Durametric for more complex stuff since I have both. It is worth it if you are keeping the car.
I doubt it's just clearing a code .The timing sequence is probably off and needs to be adjusted .It's not hard but requires at least Durametric and a shop manual .
Correction to my earlier post- my spoiler (not hood) warning light stays on, weird coz opening front or rear hood triggers it.
Then re: convertible top warning light, mine is always off. I agree with the others here re: it thinks it's not closed or synced.
Thank you all.
Some good ideas regarding the issue. I think I'll call my local Indy garage & ask how much it would be to put on the diagnostic. As I said the lights weren't on before the battery incident, only after I did everything to the hood manually.
FYI, my red spoiler dash light stays on after each time the car is started until the car is moved forward or backward, then goes out. Might try moving it and see what happens.
