Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking to get IMS work done, cheapest quote ive gotten so far is $1400 CAD (im in Canada) for the labour alone which is 11.5 hours according to them. They also have the LN engineering ceramic bearing kit for $999.99. At this price they said they would put in a clutch for free if i supply it and they can put on my muffler bypass pipes free of charge as well. Should I go with this shop? They claim to have done around 6 of these jobs. Also can I find the cermaic bearing kit for cheaper? LN engineering sells alot of different stuff on their website which product do I need? Lastly which clutch kit should I be looking at getting? And what else should I have done while they are in there? Car is a 2001 C2 Cab. Thanks!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also where can I check to see if I have a dual row bearing?

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 12069399

only after it has been removed from the car......seriously.

POST 4Original post

serial number may tell if dual row. check with jake at LN and he may be able to tell you. If you are in Toronto try autowerks

POST 5Original post

You won't know which LN product you need (dual-row or single-row pro) until the old bearing is out - which is why it's best to work with a shop that does enough retrofits to keep both in stock...

POST 6Original post

I had mine done for about $1800 U.S. (single row) part plus labor - but I also did AoS while they were in there and a couple of other things . New rms also- which was cause of original leak and why I decided to open it up. Yes clutch has to come out anyway to do this job - mine was still > 50% so just cleaned and reinstalled.

POST 7Original post

Shops in my area (Bellevue, WA) are US$150/hour labor. Based on what you've been quoted, looks like your labor rate is around US$100/hour. I was quoted 8 hours for the IMS and US$690 for the LN retrofit kit, plus additional $s for oil, filter, etc. meaning that the total was about US$2200.

POST 8Original post

Price is on the high side, but not unreasonable. Do the IMSB, RMS, clutch and AOS at the same time.

POST 9Original post

Have you tried calling other shops nearby and what were their quotes? If this shop is the ONLY game in town and you are unable to DIY, then you're in a tight spot Best of luck.

POST 10Original post

11 hours is quite high. I did this in my garage with jacks stands from lift up to car down was 6 hours.
