This problem is especially prevalent on the 986, 987, 996 & 997 2.5, 2.7, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6 & 3.8 models, For these reasons Ninemeister highly recommend replacing the Porsche DMF at the same time as a clutch replacement and will only warranty a clutch package when fitted with a new DMF.

Leading evidence: 'especially prevalent' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'especially prevalent' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install with a new dmf' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I resurfaced my flywheel to save a few bucks, but in hindsight it was probably a penny pinched unnecessarily.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I would avoid the lightweight flywheel option that many recommend...the lack of a harmonic balancer on our cars makes the damping action of the dmfw especially important.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am approaching 150K on my 2000 996 C4, and it looks like a new clutch is on the horizon
. I see that there are multiple kits available from various sources that come with all the parts ready to install. Which kit would you recommend
. I don't plan on tracking the car but I appreciate performance and I drive my car aggressively but not careless
. All advice and suggestions are appreciated
Since you don't need more clutch to handle power upgrades, stick with the oem clutch and a new dual mass flywheel. I resurfaced my flywheel to save a few bucks, but in hindsight it was probably a penny pinched unnecessarily. I would avoid the lightweight flywheel option that many recommend...the lack of a harmonic balancer on our cars makes the damping action of the dmfw especially important.
I went with Sachs. Bought it off of ebay $500 for the entire kit. I also got the flywheel resurfaced. I didnt see the point of just throwing money on a new flywheel when the old one was very much usable.

It would be interesting to know the wear /play/float dimensions you measured to determine useability of the old DMF. How many miles ?
Mine was far beyond spec at 90k miles. The gearbox had recently been off for IMSB/RMS and 'pronounced' just fine ! It is a very misunderstood subject.

"The final issue is that if the clutch/DMF assembly wears and runs out of balance it can cause severe engine damage by overloading the crankshaft main bearings. I Did my clutch at around ~65k miles. I'm no way an expert at deciding on if it was usable. I sent it to a machine shop while doing the job and they were the ones that told me its still good to go back in. My original clutch still had about 50% on there, the only reason I did it was that my throw out bearing gave out.
