Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Yes that is true, I have a set of good used cleaned & tested lifters for sale for $120.
Leading evidence: 'Clean &' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rest and nope they are all the same' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I thought I had a bad one so started checking the rest and nope they are all the same.

Don't forget that when you are done setting the cam timing on one head, the crank needs to be rotated 180 to set the other head timing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys and gals. I just had a crack repaired in one of my heads it's a 2001 3.4 cab. I had both gone over, new springs, valves done, machined etc. I have the engine on a hydraulic table can I re assemble with the engine in this position (as it sits in the car) not sure if the dowels are supposed to keep the heads in the perfect position or if gravity will throw things off. Second my lifters are all scrambled up, I didn't label them but had them played out in the proper position but the wifey thought she would help me get organized not knowing there was a method to my madness. Is this a HUGE problem?all lifters are the same style but I imagine they would all not wear the same. Also the little tappet thin on the underside of this style doesn't seem to move as they are all pushed up is this normal? I'm sure I will have more questions along my journey any help would be great thx!
The dial pins will hold the heads in the proper position unless the pins or the head holes are oval. Since your wife mixed up the lifters, might as well just install them, you will be fine. Yes ideally you want them to go back into the same hole but since that's not an option just go random. If you can, coat the lifters in engine oil for a week. Squeeze them by hand to try getting the air bubbles out.
Don't forget that when you are done setting the cam timing on one head, the crank needs to be rotated 180 to set the other head timing.
The crank needs turned 360 degrees after finishing bank 1 timing and moving to bank 2 timing, not 180. I would also suggest that you consider purchasing at least the two videos on the knowledge gruppes covering head assembly and timing.
Where can I get the video? Sounds like a great idea and thanks for all the help. The timing confuses me a bit, i've read turn 180 for the 1st bank and then opposite direction 180 for the other bank?
Dowels will locate the head correctly on the engine block, gravity is our friend. With regard to the lifter debacle, just get new lifters with everything else refreshed and new! The INI lifters are only $22 each, that's the route I chose for my recent cracked head recovery. Just be sure to soak them in engine oil for a day or two prior to installation and work the inner plunger while they are submerged to evacuate any air bubbles. Best of luck.
Are those plungers supposed to move? The ones I have do not seem to move but a fraction. They rotate but do not really move in or out at all. I thought I had a bad one so started checking the rest and nope they are all the same. I doubt they all went bad, did they??
I agree, I should have budgeted for it. I already spent 2100 to have the heads done. Not including what I spent on a new gasket set, clutch, pressure plate , upgraded fork, head bolts, coolant reservoir, headers, fuel filter, AOS, snap on digital torque wrench and the mound of other parts I have stacked up. I guess now I wait for more money to come in lol.
Once the lifters are filled with oil they will only move a bit or not at all when pressed. So what you are noticing is normal. The ones that are empty or if they sat for so long that they drained will move a lot more when squeezed.
